Vehicle Detail
Up for bid is a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with only 80,299 miles on it! This car was bought by my grandmother back in 1988 and she took very good care of her car. It has always been garaged up until recently. The car has been meticulously serviced over the years from a very respectable garage in the Cincinnati area. As my grandmother has gotten older and stopped driving (she's now 93), the car fell into my posession. I have had the car for almost a year now and just recently it started giving me some minor issues that I simply don't have time for. Starting with the most recent issue, the starter motor has failed. I don't remember the car ever having the starter motor replaced, and I'm quite sure since the purchase of the car in 1988, this is acceptable! The other issue started a few months ago. The engine began running rough and progressively got worse. The fuel filter and pump are both new, as I pulled the tank and replaced both when I first took ownership of the car. I checked the fuel rail and fuel was being delivered. As I became convinced it was NOT a fuel related issue, I checked into the electrical system. I replaced the coil pack after finding out that it was not delivering an adequate spark to several of the cylinders. After this was replaced the car was still running very rough and then stalling. I took the base of the coil pack off and had it tested. (I believe this is the electronic ignition module or computer module that lives under the coil pack). It passed several tests with flying colors. I was relieved to hear this, as this unit can get fairly costly! I reassembled the unit and found out the car was still not running at all.... I have spoken with several mechanics that have dealt with this sort of issue on this type of car and it seems that the problem is going to be the cam sensor or the crank sensor. The good news to whomever purchases this car is that neither of these units are expensive. It appears that they are both fairly easy to access in the engine as well. The bottom line is that I simply don't have time to continue to work on this car. Outside of those issues, the car is in really good shape. The paint is decent (albeit needing a good bath), the interior looks really good (however the headliner needs to be resecured as it is doing the GM sag!!!) There is no rust on the vehicle and the underbody is straight. When the car WAS running, it ran really strong! This car has always had plenty of power from the 3800 under the hood and fuel economy was decent as well. Please feel more than free to email me with any question you may have. Thanks for looking, happy bidding and Happy Holidays to you and yours....
