And the last two owners swear it has less than 27,000 miles on it since new! This is a great looking car would easily be considered a grade 1 or 2. Purchased by the present owner in 1990 it has had a substantial step by step restoration by local shops over several years. The body was restored in 2002. The left and right quarter panels and rocker panels were replaced. The exterior was repainted in the original black (DB40G) color. It is believed to be a base coat / clear coat finish. The paint exhibits a high gloss. The only serious flaws are a barely noticeable 1” dent on the right front fender with no paint loss and a 2” scrape down to the primer along the right edge of the hood near the front. All the body panels fit well with even gaps. The hubcaps have been stripped and repainted however only the area around the star has been painted black. The trim rings are in good condition. Most of the chrome has been refinished and/or polished however the driver’s rearview mirror is not the original type. All of the correct emblems, badges, stone guards, handles and trim are of high quality either rechromed or replaced. The plastic lenses are correct and of good quality. The glass is in good condition. All the rubber gaskets are in good condition. The top fits well and was replaced in 2008 with correct German canvas with the correct dobby backing.. The plastic window is clear with no flaws. The top frame appears to have been refinished and is bright and clean. The tires are 185/80R13 Silvertown wide whitewalls replaced in 2004. The original jack, tools and bag, rubber floor mat, spare tire with clamps are in the trunk. The large window hardtop is white with a red interior. There is a ¼” chip in the paint on the right side and some buffable scuffs. The seats were reupholstered 2002 with a Star Quality kit. The interior door caps and dash pad were recovered in red leather. There is loop carpeting in the front and rear. The left and right interior door panels are original showing the correct patina. There is a jump seat in the rear that appears to have the original leather as well. The dashboard has been repainted black. The VDO clock is installed and operates. All the gauges work and are in good cosmetic condition. A Becker Europa radio refurbished in 1997 is installed. This car has the horn ring turn signal system with the overtaking light switch mounted on the left side of the steering column. The emergency brake and hood release operate correctly. The engine compartment is neat and clean. At some point a hotter cam was installed in the car. In 1998 an original cam was installed and the Solex carburetors were rebuilt at the same time. The generator was replaced as well. It runs quietly and smoothly with oil pressure pinned on the #6 on the gauge while driving. The coolant temperature is normal. The engine starts without trouble. The clutch and transmission operate normally. The car drives well with the expected power. The brakes operate without fade. The underside of the car has been undercoated with slight evidence of only surface rust. The trailing arm supports appear to be solid. The rear shocks were replaced in 1995. The starter and ball joints were replaced in 2003 and the water pump and wheel cylinders in 1995. Sold as-is due to age.
