Vehicle Detail

This is a 1965 Buick Skylark GS post coupe. it is one of 405 built in 1965 with a 3 speed manual transmission. the car runs, drives and stops as it should and there are no known mechanical issues. however i strongly recommend against driving it long distances as the car has been sitting in storage for 25 years and anything can happen when you're in the middle of nowhere. Be sure to check out the youtube video link located at the very bottom. it contains a walk around as well as the car running. Engine, the original engine was blown up 26 years ago and a replacement engine was rebuilt and installed. the current engine has about 15000 miles and is a Buick 401 nailhead that has been bored .020 oversized with new pistons. the entire rotating assy was balanced and the engine was blueprinted for exact tolerances. the cam is a NOS stock Buick cam. the engine pulls 18" of vacuum at idle and has crisp throttle response. the oil pressure is at 50 psi cold and stays at 40 psi at idle after warmed up. clutch and release bearing were replaced at time of engine rebuild. the radiator has been recored and the car runs at 185-190 * even in 90 degree weather. the current carburator on the car is an Edelbrock 750 cfm with electric choke but i do have a 66 GS carb to go with car as well as the correct aircleaner. This car has some nice power. if you get into the secondaries at 20 mph the back tires start to spin in first or second gear. Transmission and rear differential: the transmission is the original HD Dearborn top loader 3 speed and it works fine. i just had it serviced due to the car sitting so long. the shifter handle is original but has some surface rust on it and will need rechromed. as stated above , the clutch is fairly new and is in good shape. the rear end is the original and has the correct 3.36 gear ratio. I have installed new rear wheel bearings and seals. brakes are fine. drive shaft is the correct one piece and has no damage. Interior: the interior suffered the most from the 25 years in storage, i had to trim out the panels on the headliner to remove several mouse nests but did not remove any of the bows or windlace. the carpet has been removed and the drivers floorpan has a few holes about the size of a penny from the carpet getting wet when the window was left open years ago. the area around the holes is not soft and even the metal at the holes is very firm. I have a new drivers front floorpan that goes with the car to cut patch panels from or if you want you can replace the whole section although it certainly doesnt need it. seats need recovered and possibly new foam. dash pad is cracked. interior chrome is nice and pit free but the instrument cluster and radio bezel have some dirt or something of that nature on them. I have an extra instrument cluster and radio bezel that come with the car and they are very very nice. rear view mirror is near perfect as are the wing window locks and door and window crank handles. some of the pictures have a console in them but that was just sitting in place to see how it would look in the car. there is no console with the car. Body: the Body is rust free and has had no repairs for collision or rust. the repaint was over 25 years ago and was a poor scuff and shoot . the car looks decent in the pics but in person at 10 feet you can tell it was a quick and cheap job. there is no rust in the car other than what i described in the drivers front floorpan. the core support is solid as is the battery tray and inner fenders. the trunk is rust free and as solid as the day it was built. rear body mounts are rust free as well. there are many tiny door type dings but no dents or collision damage. all lights and signals work as well as gas gauge and heater blower. the frame is the correct boxed frame and is as dry and solid as the day it was built. no rust in the frame at all!! factory color is midnite blue with light blue interior. Trim: the grill and headlight bezels have no visible pitting. the drivers mirror that comes with the car is near perfect. the tail lights have some minor pitting but i'm told by my local rechromer that they can be rechromed and will look fine. the GS fender vents are nice and have no pitting or damage. the front and rear bumpers look fine for a driver but need rechroming and a few minor dings removed. front windshield trim was dented when it was reinstalled after paint and i have a spare set. the rear window trim has a few dings and will need straightening or replaced. hood ornament is fairly nice and doesnt look pitted, center tail light emblem looks nice as well. rocker trim is near perfect the car comes with stock 14 steel wheels and dog dish caps and not the 15 " rallies and tires shown in the pictures. it also now has the correct power steering even though the pics show it with manual steering. once again please dont ask if i think the car would make it across country. i dont see any reason why it wouldnt but do you really want to take a chance like that with a car this rare?
