1983 Mercedes-Benz 280GE G-class Wagon. Please note that this is a 1983 and NOT a 1980. It was necessary to list it as a 1980 for ebay to accept the European VIN number. This vehicle was legally imported from England into Canada in April of this year. It was certified and safety checked and road licensed by a European Specialist garage upon its arrival. Since then it has been garage stored and used only occasionally by myself. During my ownership of this vehicle it has never been used off road or driven in the rain. This vehicle is offered for auction as part of a downsizing initiative of my collection. It would be with great difficulty that one will find a G in as pristine condition as this one. It is truly in astonishing condition. This Mercedes is an incredibly versatile vehicle. It is just as well suited to traverse the arctic tundra as it is to arrive at a black-tie affair. A true combination of class and utility. Because of the year of this vehicle it is fully exportable to the USA. In Canada it is also exempt from emissions testing. Please note that this is a Right Hand Drive vehicle. It is extremely easy and civilized to drive. This vehicle is in overall outstanding condition. All systems operate as they should on this vehicle. As can be seen in the photographs, the body and paintwork are in excellent condition. There is no rust evident on the bodywork or the chassis. There is a small dent the size of a silver dollar below the left hand side rear passenger window. The rubberized moulding is slightly warped on the right hand side of the vehicle just below the rear passenger window. All body panels are straight and true and the paintwork is shiny without damage. The interior of this Mercedes is clean and original. The headliner is missing the trim piece that runs along the top of the rear door and has a few cracks in it. The seats are original and have custom fit black seat covers in place. The female ends of the front seat belt receptacles are missing the plastic surrounds. This does not affect their function. The passenger seats fold completely forward allowing for maximum cargo space. The front seats also swing forward to allow passengers to enter the rear seating area. The window tint has several scratches on the inside. This is not really noticeable from the exterior but worth mentioning. The engine runs perfectly and starts on the button without any strange noises or issues. The engine bay is tidy. The engine is the Mercedes 2.8 liter twin overhead cam 6 cylinder gasoline unit. It is mated to a 4 speed automatic transmission which shifts and operates as it should without noises or grinding. This vehicle is of course equipped with a high and low transfer gearbox allowing Rear wheel drive, Four wheel drive High and Four wheel drive Low. The vehicle is further equipped with front and rear locking differentials which are operated via controls located beside the gearshift levers. All gear and traction systems in this vehicle work perfectly. The tires are in good condition however one tire of the 4 is a different make of tire (doesn't match the other 3). All tires are matching in size, specification and condition. The brakes operate correctly as does the emergency brake system and given that the vehicle has seen little use since it was fully inspected, safety checked and certified for road use in Ontario Canada in April 2011, I would assume they will not need to be serviced or replaced.
