Vehicle Detail
1962 Mercedes 220SE W111 Coupe: This car appears to be pretty original and is only missing the original radio, battery frame and wheel beauty rings. It doesn’t appear to have ever been involved in any major collision Tan exterior: The paint is not original, but I believe it is the original color, though I can’t confirm this since the plate with the paint code is missing. The top paint color does match the paint color underneath where it has chipped. The re-spray appears to be several years old, but I’m unsure when it was painted. The paint has a nice shine and some bubbling from rust. Red leather interior: The red leather front seats appear to be original. They have no rips and all the seams are in nice shape. They do need to be re-colored and conditioned to be in great shape. The red leather rear seats have some damage as the top on the driver's side has been baking in the sun and the leather has dried out and some fallen apart along the top of the rear seat. The red leather door panels, quarter panels, door bolsters, dash and the rear window deck leather has become discolored and have peeled back in places. The red velvet headliner appears to have been replaced. It is in great shape with a little bleaching from the sun on the rear window posts. The sun visors appear original and are in great working order. The carpet is all falling apart and needs to be completely replaced. The driver’s side seatbelt is faded, but the passenger side seatbelt is missing. Interior wood: The great news is that it’s all there, but it all needs to be refinished. The wood center console tray is in good shape. Gauges: The speedometer has been disconnected. I don’t know why. The tacometer works great as does the gas gauge, OEL and other gauge are working. The clock works, but loses about 15 minutes a week. Engine: The engine appears to be the original 2.2 liter straight six cylinder with fuel injection. I cleaned out the injectors, changed the oil and gave it a tune-up. It runs very nice and smooth. Transmission: The automatic transmission shift into all the gears, but it’s a little touchy. When put into reverse it makes a whirring noise, engages and backs up. When stopped the transmission pushes against the brake. It may need some adjustments, drained flushed and a new filter. Suspension: The car feels like it’s floating, but I’m not sure if that’s the way it’s supposed to feel. It’s not like my Porsche. It rides smoothly and the shock appear to be working as the car doesn’t bounce around. Brakes: I bled the brake fluid and adjusted the hand emergency brake and the brake buster appears to be assisting in the braking. Power Steering: The steering is responsive and easily turned. The steering wheel is white with the red leather horn button and chrome horn ring in great shape. Electrical: The turn signals, headlights, glove box light, dash lights, running lights, brake lights, windshield wipers, horn, and electric fuel pump all work. I installed a new battery, which turns the engine over very nicely and has been charging up by the alternator without any problems. The cigar lighter, interior dome lights and heater fan do not work. I’ve been cleaning up the fuse box and replacing fuses and these may be working soon. The radio is not the original and is not hooked up. The antenna is the original Wiki antenna. The dash speaker appears to be the original. Wheels/Tires: The tires are tired and old and from K-Mart, yes I know, why would you put K-Mart tires on a classic, but there they are. The wheels are the original type 13” wheels with the original hubcaps. The beauty rings are missing. Glass: All the glass is there and appears to be the original Sekurit D-02 AS2 windows. The windshield ahs some minor scraping which can be easily buffed out. The rear window is in great shape. The windows roll up and down, but could be lubed up. The wing windows work smoothly too. The rubber is old and cracking and should be replaced. It appears some caulking has been put in places to slow down leaks. Mirrors: Both the rear view mirror and the driver’s side mirror are in great shape. The rear view mirror has a nice internal mechanism to allow it to flip for night time. Lenses: The lenses are all colored nicely and have been cleaned and polished. There are no cracks or breaks. Bumpers: The bumpers need to be re-chromed and a couple dents knocked out. There is some rust on the top of the rear bumper near the middle and the passenger side rear upper bumper doesn’t shine. The front bumper looks good. Chrome: The chrome around the windows needs to be re-chromed. The grill chrome is nice as are the chrome rocker panel covers and the hubcaps. The chrome around the headlights, front marker lights and tail lights are in great shape and shine nicely. Grill: The grill is in great shape with all the original parts, including all the horizontal and vertical aluminum trim/molding and the original Mercedes star hood ornament. Rust: There is some rust in this 50 year old classic, but it is minimal. The major rust is limited to the compartment behind the driver’s side rear tire in the trunk (see photo). There is some rust surfacing through the paint on the driver’s door, in front of the driver’s door and behind the driver’s door (see photos). There are a couple bubbles on the hood in front of the fresh air grill(see photo). There are a couple spots around the rear window-side window chrome. The floor are free of cancel, but have some minor surface rust, but very solid (see photos). I could have put on some POR-15 in the rust areas, but I didn’t want to do the work the new owner would do over or replace. Doors: The doors open smoothly and do not droop or drop. They are solid and work well. The lock switches do not work or are stuck. Trunk: The trunk also has a nice rubber mat and there is some minor surface rust, but very solid and nice, even under the spare tire is solid and free of cancer. The spare tire is on the passenger side rear as that tire went flat. The spare is nice and accompanied with an original crank jack and tire iron. Payment: Full payment must be made upon pick-up. The car is being sold as is, where it is in Seabeck, Washington. All shipping cost and arrangements for shipping are to be made by the buyer. A $1,000 deposit must be made within 48 hours of the winning bid and the rest of the bid paid upon pick-up to be made with-in a week. I can be and have been reasonable with every customer. Keep up communication and there won’t be any problems. I can work with you. I will send the Washington State title signed by the owner after payment and car has been picked up. Bidding: PLEASE if you do not intend on buying this car do not bid. I lost out on a buyer who wanted this car because someone else bid on the car with no intention of buying. He wanted the thrill of bidding and bid thinking someone else would outbid him. PLEASE bid to win an item, don't bid to lose it. This kind of activity is unfair to the seller and the potential buyer. A buyer who now thinks I had someone else bid the item up to find out his high bid, then offer him a second chance offer knowing his high bid. I'm now starting the bid at $5,000 with no reserve. If you win it, you buy it.
