Vehicle Detail

Up for your consideration and offered without reserve, this excellent example of the last of the wedge-car Triumphs, the fuel injected 1981 Triumph TR7. First though, before I go on, "I am selling this car for a friend." I know these words strike fear in to would-be ebay car purchasers, but please let me give the back ground story and the guarantee: The "no reserve" aspect was my advice as I believe ebay is the best way to find the true value of an unusual car or item, and my friend (Terry) has some medical bills mounting up, so this was a luxury that made sense to cut loose of, at whatever price the market supports. I am listing the car for him because I have (barely) the computer skills to do so, and he doesn't even own one. That said, any questions that come up and are sent to me I will answer, but for any interested parties who request his phone number I will give that out and he will happily talk at great length about the car. About myself, I value my ebay reputation and will not mis-represent anything in any way, and here is the guarantee: If upon personal inspection, the car is not EXACTLY as represented here, simply refuse to buy it. That's it, no obligation. I am a British Car mechanic for a living, and have done some work on this car, so I am fairly familiar with it also, and able to asses it's virtues and defects. Terry is an obsessive compulsive preservationist and TR7 fan. He restores (or preserves is a better word in his case - cats, snowblowers, HO trains, TR7's...) and he recognized this car for it's survivor status and as an unusually well preserved original example. It's the last year for TR7's, by which time many of the annoying kinks of these cars had been well sorted out by the factory. Terry has been possessed with finding new old stock parts whenever possible and fusses over small details of originality (green plug wires, various injection components, original tops and top boots, etc. Puts shirts over the seats to keep them as found, not perfect, but close, and never re-done!) The "grunge" apparent in the pictures around the lug-nuts making the wheels look rusty, is actually oil coating the threads of the wheel studs to prevent corrosion (even though we're in dry Colorado) and the car has hardly seen any sun since he's owned it, except for when he takes it out for drives. Though not a little old lady, his driving style would fool you. It's all about the machine with Terry, and hard driving is not part of his M.O. If you were to take a switch out of the dash and disassemble it, you would find it had been apart already, cleaned and re-assembled with dielectric grease. So enough about the seller(s)! This car was purchased new in Germany by a US serviceman where it did daily service before being brought to the US by the original owner. The government plate is still on it and comes with the car. After more time spent here it was finally purchased by Terry in April of 1999. Many cars are sold as "restored" after receiving a cheap paint job to conceal a bunch of rust, followed by a new set of tires. This car is just the opposite. It has under 70,000 original miles and is completely rust free except for the small spots at the bottom corners of each wheel arch which can be seen in the pictures. It has never been in an accident, but has numerous dents and scratches all over the body, the major ones of which are in the pictures. The tires are old and need to be replaced, but the spare is still the original (good for showing off at car shows). The paint is the original (midas gold), so there are no hidden surprises and again, NO RUST except for what is shown in the wheel arch pictures. The point is that this car is a mechanically EXCELLENT driver that needs only the aforementioned paint job and tires, although it's a nice looking driver as it is. The fuel system has just been completely cleaned out including removal of the fuel tank, fuel pipes and hoses, and all 4 brand new original equipment bosch fuel injectors and fuel pump/filter combo all at great expense and to Terry's obsessive/compulsive standards. Starts instantly, no rattles, smoke, or leaks, at least not enough to show up on the ground. The transmission and clutch are perfect and smooth, (5-speed of course) having recently been replaced with a less than 20,000 mile one, again done with great attention to detail including bolt correctness, parts brand correctness where possible, harness routing etc, the sort of workmanship not generally lavished on cars outside of the Corvette / Jaguar realm. Everything on the car works. Every electrical item, even the clock. The top is the correct original, complete with the "Vyback" brand clear windows which I attempted to show in the pictures. Seats, carpet, vinyl, everything is original and in much better condition than would be expected for a car of this age. It's not all perfect, but the originality is such that it does not warrant re-doing. No radio (it was some non-period eyesore, so Terry took it out!) and as I mentioned, the car cleans up even better that it looks in the pictures, which were taken hastily without detailing it in any way to get them taken before the snows started. It comes with the original owners manual and tool kit which have all survived along with the car. As the car still has it's original paint, the trunk, door jambs, and engine bay still look like new, and a relatively affordable paint job of matching color on the outside panels only, would really make for a head turning car. Oh yeah, needs a new set of tires too... The winning bidder has all of the usual payment methods open for use. Wire transfer, personal check (once cleared), a little leery of cashier's checks for the usual reasons, but as long as the funds have cleared that's ok too. Of course cash... However it's done, please have it paid for inside of the usual ten days. Title is clear and ready to go, car can be picked up (or driven I suppose) whenever it is convenient for you. Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, and if you're serious about the car, please read any answers to posted questions which may come up about anything I may have overlooked. Good luck, and thanks again!
