Vehicle Detail
I bought a 64 Bonneville Safari, and never thought I would sell this car. I waited over half my life to buy THIS CAR. I first saw it in 1986 in a barn in Yakima Washington, it wasnt for sale. I bought it from that owner in 1999 and drove it until 2001. Its been inside ever since then, and was inside from 1981 until the time I bought it in the spring of 1999. I have driven it a handful of time since 2001. The man I bought it from did the following that I know of.... rebuilt the engine - 389, the windshield and rubber were replaced, radiator, brakes, tires, air shocks, seat bottom material in front seat, and an ok paint job. I have waxed the paint, and not cleaned up the interior, or detailed it. Its not bad for a 64. It needs door panels, and the rest is pretty good. Original carpet, headliner, dash, and rear cargo area. The cold light in the dash still works as it should. There is a cd/stereo where the ash tray goes, and the original radio is untouched, but not working. I think all the dash lights work. Heater works, A/C is totally complete and untouched, but not cold. The alternator belt was seemingly always loose, and not charging the best..... still loose. I put a electric fan on, but think i still have the original fan. I backed into the rear bumper in 01 and that was about the time i quit driving it. The transmission shifts into all gears but the front seal is weak... I have moved it around the shop at least once a year, and remember it dripping and then it stops after a few minutes... however it did not do that the other day after sitting for at least 8 months... anyhow.. its likely in need of attention. The motor runs very smooth and strong. NO SMOKE, NO TICKS, NO KNOCKS.. its a nice engine. I drove the car to work today, and it gets a lot of looks. I only took a few pictures, and put it up for sale in front of my work today, and will take many more pictures on Sunday and try to add them to the auction. Let me be clear, this car will sell, its not going to be hanging around on ebay, annoying people... I dont believe in wasting time trying to pinch every last penny out of a car. I am ready to sell it, now. I bought a 64 Bonneville Safari, which is what I always wanted, and the catalina needs a new home. I wish the car was still mint green, but the white looks nice.. again, its just a fair paint job,not fancy or a high dollar job. A junker 64 catalina wagon seems to be worth about 1000.00 This is not a junker. They rarely come up for sale like this..in fact ... very rarely. Thanks for reading. .... i know this is not enough pictures to make an informed decision, I just wanted to get it listed while I am in the "getting rid of mood"I will put the vin number on when I get some more pictures on Sunday, delivery west of here can be arranged at a good price. ALL MY AUCTIONS END WITH BUY IT NOW, BECAUSE I LOWER THEM UNTIL THEY SELL.....SO... IF YOU WANT THIS CAR, WATCH VERY CLOSELY, I AM LIKELY TO DO WHAT I ALWAYS DO WHEN I AM IN THE GETTING RID OF MODE... AND LOWER IT UNTIL IT SELLS.. then get emails from bidders or people who "saw" it for sale and then it sold... just want to be upfront so you are not upset when it disappears.... I would be if the seller didnt tell me ahead of time.David gas gage works, speedometer works, heater goes from red to blue nicely when turning knob. . Front end is tight, no noises, and I think it was rebuilt, spring, bushings etc. but not 100% sure..either way, its steers nice, and is not loose. wing window on drivers side does not go in all the way, rear bumber has a good size dent, tach has never worked. 8 lug wheels are in very nice shape, tires are in very nice shape. steering wheel is as good as I have EVER seen on a sixties pontiac, not perfect, but super nice. The whole dash is for that matter...very nice. I will take 20 pictures on Sunday and post them.... if i can figure out how, seem like you can ad pictures once there are bids.. i will find out.On Oct-30-11 at 18:24:27 PDT, seller added the following information: It is Sunday evening. I will be posting all the photos I can, hopefully 20. I drove it to the local car wash and had a quick wash and interior cleaning done this morning, and was not able to get them posted until right now. The tailgate panel needs to be lifted to close the tailgate ( or hit hits..simple thing ). The rear cargo area has NO RUST. It is a 6 passenger wagon. There is some rust on the drivers underside as shown in the picture. The choke is not working, the tail lights and blinkers are not working, which should be something very simple. The paint in the door jams is flaking off. Again, to bad it was painted white. Thats all I can think of, the transmission did not leak, but again, I think it will need attention sooner than later. The wheels are nice, as are the tires, the paint shines, but its no show quality job, just ok. I have a close up the back right bumper, and trim piece, the rest of the trim and body is straight. I will likely lower the buy it now tomorrow, its just what I do. Thanks for the interest, I just have to post all the photos i took on ebay, and not send them out individually. David
