Vehicle Detail
You're bidding on an almost 100% original 1973 Land Rover Series III 88" model. This car was purchased in San Diego, CA in 1973 and then bought from the original owner in 1977. It has stayed with my wife's family ever since 1977 and is a garaged vehicle. My wife's family used it as a weekend fun vehicle and it was not used for off-road. The 91k miles are original and so is most of the vehicle. Any parts that have been replaced on the vehicle were replaced with original ones...when possible. In the last couple of years the radiator has been repaired, the carburetor rebuilt, new tires, some new dip switches, and a new washer bottle. The vehicle is rust free and has been garaged since 1977. The vehicle runs and drives but there is some top end noise and like most British vehicles, it does leak a bit. There are several cool extras including the tropical roof, the 1942 Willys trailer, an extra seat, the original manuals and "passport", some other nuts/bolts/seals. The vehicle's name is "Grover the Rover" and the trailer's name is "Cleveland". Please contact me with any questions or clarifications. Remember, this is an almost 100% original, 38 year old vehicle and will be sold "as-is". Both the Rover and the trailer have clear California titles. Buyer to arrange shipping. Here are some emails with answers from the last time the Rover was posted...if figured that others might have the same questions: Hello-- The car has never been in any accidents. With regard to the engine noise, it seems to be top end valve clatter . Overall the vehicle drives well but seems to be a little "cold blooded" and takes a few minutes to warm up but starts right away. I'm not used to driving a car with a choke (I have an older Vespa and 2005 Triumph with chokes but they're a totally different animal) so I'm not sure if this is par for the course or not (my wife says her father would always warm the car up for a while before taking it out). The Rover idles smoothly when warm and all 4 cylinders are firing. The car is definitely structurally sound and no modifications that I know of. The car was my father-in-law's from 1977 until his death in 2009 at which time it became my wife's and mine. It still resides in my mother-in-law's garage where it's been since 1977. I even have the original registration from 1977. Cheers, Ben Hello-- As far as I know the car was originally serviced by Land Rover of El Cajon (now gone) and then serviced at Tolley's Foreign Car Service in Lemon Grove, CA. My Father-in-law wasn't a "shade tree" mechanic so the work was always done by an outside person(s). Good luck on the Rovers for your sons...a very cool passion/hobby to pass on. Cheers, Ben Hello--Thanks for checking out the Rover. Some work has been done over the years but I only have the receipts going back about 10 years. I do have a mile log going back to 1977 that has various items listed throughout. The dash, by the way, is immaculate!! My Mother-in-law created the "dash cover/animal skin thingy" about 30 years ago according to my wife and the car has also been garaged. As for rust in the bulk head...zero rust. I'll see about posting another pic with the bulk head showing. Cheers, Ben
