Vehicle Detail
I don't know much about this car, and I have not done my best to make this car look great. It is not all armorall'ed up and has only been vacuumed out and pressure washed by me. 1981 GLT 2 door Volvo 242. I found this GLT at a local car dealer's lot as he took it in on a trade. The car runs good and drives great. The heater and the air-conditioner both work as they should. The windows and door locks are not power and they function well. The manual sun-roof still works great. The car is not in show room condition but is not a rust bucket either. There is only one rusted spot on the car and it is below the gas filler-upper spot on the passenger side (there is a built in drain for the spilled gas and the hose is running the gas and rain water? inside the fender and eating it out a little). "It is not a terrible problem to fix," says the body shop man. The factory clock is not working. The plastic catch for the sun visor is broke on the driver side so it will need one of those but the sun-visors are still there and they work. The boot around the gear-shifter is not tucked in all the way around It still has the owners manual in the glove box, the original spare, jack and tool pouch in the trunk, and the headrest covers for the seats are back there to. The body is real straight as you can see but there is one tiny dent on the hood and the sunroof has a small dent in it near the back that looks like it should be a paint-less repair. This car is tagged with Arkansas Antique Tags and is a fun driver, it appears to have been well maintained. The black trim around the center of the car is rubber and when it comes off, there is the chrome piece underneath it. You can see in the picture on the trunk. There is a little top rust on the chrome but it is all in tact. One picture shows a white spot in the driver seat that is the only hole in the interior. The head liner is great and the dash is not real cracked up but does have a few cracks. Sorry, I couldn't get pictures of everything. The auction will run for seven days with no minimum and the 1 penny starting price if it will let me. Buyer will be responsible for any shipping or can pick-up locally or we can work something out. The car is located in Mountain Home, Arkansas and is available for inspection by calling (870)-580-0282. The car is for sale locally and I will be reserving the right to end the auction early. I recon I would like a deposit over pay-pal of $800 and the rest due when picked-up If you have any questions or need to discuss meeting or shipping arrangements, I will be happy to talk with you. Again, my phone number is (870)-580-0282. If I have left any info off feel free to ask. I should respond promptly. P.S. Do not be afraid of my low feedback percentage. When I first started eBaying (last year), I was selling silver coins and had a bunch of confusion over the silver percentage of U.S. minted coins in my ads. (I think the 'experienced' were taking advantage of a 'newbie', but all ended well for everyone. I offer no promises or warranties on used vehicles, so try to come see it or contact me. I may be able to get you some videos or something if you have specific concerns. I will co-operate with over seas buyers as well. On Oct-26-11 at 18:39:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Yes, some of the GLT cars came with the turbo, but not all of them. This is the American version, though, because it is fuel injected, (I have been learning a little bit) the Canadian cars were carbureted. The pictures of the Volvo's interior do not do it justice, this is a sweet little car that gets a lot of complements. Thanks for the phone call and good luck bidding! There was a man who called and asked if the car would make the drive from Arkansas to Washington D.C. I believe that the car will make the trip. The only problem that I have encountered with the performance of this car is with some bad gas. On Oct-26-11 at 18:46:40 PDT, seller added the following information: Oh, and the Volvo will need a radio as the one in it is junk and not the original. Thanks for the question, I sure forgot to put that in the add. On Oct-26-11 at 22:15:38 PDT, seller added the following information: I also had a caller ask how the transmission shifted... I am glad that he asked because it made me realize how I forgot to tell all of the good points. I tried the best I could to cover what was wrong with this car, so much that I forgot to tell you how good this car really is. The gearbox on this car shifts extremely smooth, and the electric 5th gear works fine! The car drives straight, the steering wheel is even straight when the car is going down the road, there is no pulling or shimming in the steering or suspension! The brakes are great, oh and it is 4 wheel disc brakes also, and the parking brake works. This Volvo has many more enjoyable miles left in it. Don't forget, the air-conditioner still blows cold. 175,000 miles is LOW MILES for a 1981! GLT= grand luxury touring. Don't miss out on this hard to find two-door (I had a hard time finding them to even learn about this one). These 2.1 engines are desirable with the turbo crowds. This would probably make for the easiest restoration project Volvo 242 out there, if you were wanting a mint condition car. But, some black seat-covers and a radio w/speakers would make for a fine ride. On Oct-26-11 at 22:35:54 PDT, seller added the following information: GLT (1981–82): Standing for "Grand Luxe Touring," these models shared the uprated suspension, blacked-out exterior trim, and 15" Virgo alloy wheels of the GLT-Turbo model, but with a naturally aspirated powertrain. I just found this.
