Factory built, 1967 Honda 450 Police special. CB4501026543 In 1967 Honda sent 25 of these bikes to the USA in an attempt to penetrate the American police bike market. Essentially one was sent to each major urban area . American Police departments were unimpressed and not a single order for additional units was placed. A very few years later Kawasaki sold thousands of Similar bikes, but I feel the difference was , that in 1967 most Police motor officers were vets of the Second World War and many had fought the Japanese. They were not ready to trade their Indian’s or Harleys for a Honda. By the 70’s a new generation was on patrol and they had been raised on Japanese bikes and new of their quality. For this Bike it was unavailable for public sale and ended up on display at a Mid-West Honda Dealer who donated it to a university engineering department for student study . After about five years it was acquired by a Foreign collector acquired the bike from the university and shipped it to the Netherlands. In 2001 a deal was struck and the Honda was shipped back to the USA. After waiting six Months for delivery , the bike arrived from the UK where it had undergone a Complete engine tear down to assure the engine was assembled correctly. Once in the USA a complete restoration was completed. Having never been placed into service, the Bike had only 41 Miles on the Odometer when it arrived. To date it has less then 100 miles on it. In the process of restoring this bike , it was learned that less than a handful have survived and this is by far the most complete and original of them all. Not shown are the rear saddle bags and surround bars which were on when new and just recently acquired. They will go with the bike. Condition is very, very good. I won’t say flawless as there may be a chip here or there , but very hard to find any flaws. The Bike runs and drives great. Equipment: it has two sirens one mechanical driven off the rear wheel, and one electronic. It also has a Motorolla Police ,two way , communicator ,with Microphone. You can turn on the siren, or use the mic for crowd control or to pull over a speeder. There is a Red Tower flashing light on the back and two red units on the front. Turn signals , Antenna ,radio Box and Police carrier . Also a red bottom windshield. This one really has all the bells and whistles . It also comes with a letter of instructions to work the electronics. It is currently on display in a museum and will make a fantastic display in any Museum or private collection. It’s the best of a very rare model. I would hope it stays in the USA but bidding is open World Wide. Please read carefully and Bid according to the stated terms.
