easttennatm Store 1959 Jaguar Mark IX My wife and I bought this car about 4 years ago with the intentions of starting a wedding car business, where folks could reserve the Jaguar for a pickup and drop-off service and have their photos made with the car. We were moving in that direction when my work really picked up and a while after that, we decided to start a family. Needless to say we now have a very nice Jaguar that I don't need :) In my search for a wedding car, I looked for the nicest example I could afford. I purchased this Jaguar from a broker in Florida who was selling the car from a guy in California, where this car spent its entire life as far as I can trace it. I paid $22,000 and had it shipped to me here in Chattanooga on an enclosed carrier. This is a 1959 Jaguar Mark IX, a beautiful old touring salon that the Queen of England used as her personal chauffeured vehicle (not this particular car, this model :). It features a (numbers matching) 3.8 inline 6 cylinder, which Jaguar used in some form for over 30 years because of its reliability and performance. It features an automatic transmission, red leather interior, beautiful hardwood trim and a working sunroof. The trunk is huge, and spats cover the rear whitewall tires giving this car a classic look; the best part is looking down the long hood and seeing the Jaguar "Leaper" hood ornament at the end. The main wiring harness and sub-harnesses are modern harnesses from British Wiring. It's modern wiring but has the original cloth jacket so it matches the old wiring that was removed. An electronic ignition was also installed at that time, but of course it could be easily converted back to a points ignition system. The car has two fuel pumps and one of those has been replaced as well. Inside, the interior wood is in very good shape, especially the dash and the back of the front seat trim and tables. Some of the wood trim around the windows and doors could use some refinishing to bring the shine back however. The seats both front and back are in absolutely excellent shape with no rips or tears of any kind. Same goes for the door panels, they are very good as well. The Wilton wool headliner still looks good with no sag or stains, and the interior carpet is in good shape. The dash features working glove boxes on both sides. The exterior chrome is for the most part in good shape. There are a few places where it's starting to show its age a bit, like on the license plate cover that houses the light for example, but it all looks very good. I purchased the Jaguar from a gentleman in California that used it for vineyard tours, so it spent most of it's life there until we brought it to Chattanooga a few years ago. The only big issue with the Jaguar right now are the brakes. The brakes can be applied, but the pedal is hard to push. From what I understand the calipers need to be rebuilt (I'm not sure if it's just a couple or all, but I was going to have all of them rebuilt). The master cylinder was rebuilt just before I purchased the car. There are two spots on the car that need a bit of attention. One is a slight bump in the trunk lid along the right edge where the weight of the trunk lid caused the trunk lid to buckle slightly over the prop rod. You can see this if you look closely at the right rear quarter picture. The other is the chrome trim ring around the rear windshield is a bit loose on the upper right side, and from what I can tell there are a few rust flakes just under the edge of the chrome ring where the rear window glass meets the body. The chrome strip should probably be pulled off, and a new rubber seal installed before re-seating the trim. Like I said, it's not a show car but not a rust bucket by any means. I've had the car inspected by a few knowledgeable people and they agree that the car is solid overall, without the deterioration to the undercarriage that some of these cars have. Just over 10,000 of the 1959 Mark IX were produced and they are becoming harder to find in any type of decent condition, and this is a very nice one. Currently she stays at an indoor RV facility, and is run regularly and driven to keep everything functional. This past week the fuel system was flushed, and fuel filters replaced to keep her running well.This is a beautiful old Mark IX that is a great candidate for a full body-off restoration, but with a little work it can be driven immediately as well. The interior is in better shape than 99% of the Marks you'll see for sale, and that's a huge cost savings already. Tires are in good condition as well, so with a little brake work you can have a nice Jaguar for quite a bit under book value. It does run and drive for getting it on/off a trailer, but definitely could use a tune-up with carbs adjusted, etc. The video below is just a short, low-quality video from my cell phone taken at the storage facility.
