Hi there. You are looking at a one-of-a-kind, awesome show winning 1966 split window bus that I am listing for my 72 year old father who isn't into the "computer thing." My father purchased this bus about 6 years ago after selling his 1967 beetle and 78 bus. My dad has always been a VW guy. This is probably one of the coolest VW buses I've ever seen. But my dad now wants to buy something else and since he doesn't have room for more than one vehicle, this one has to be sold. The bus always starts on the first shot, burns no oil and can be driven on the highway - but as you know with any Type II from this early generation, not too fast! Many years ago someone modified this bus with a unique tongue and groove pine interior and turned it into a camper bus complete with fold out VW bench seat in the back and removable table. It has storage cabinets and the interior is like new with vinyl floor that matches the nice light green/off white exterior. The front seats are also mint. There really is not a single thing that the interior of this bus needs. Period. The exterior of the bus is also in fantastic condition. No rot anywhere. The underneath is clean as a whistle. Not something you often see with buses of this vintage. The exterior paint is in good shape but we'll be honest and say that there are a couple of spots that could use a paint touch up from rock chips, etc, and there is one tiny area over the rear driver side wheel arch that has a couple of small rust bubbles. But as you can see from the photographs, this bus is in excellent condition on the outside. No rot in the wheel wells, no rot in the floor boards, nada. The engine is a replacement engine that we were able to date code from the late 60s or early 70s. It has never failed him. Even after long winter storage a couple of pumps of the gas pedal and she fires right up. No smoking oil, nothing wrong with it at all. Shifts fine and goes down the road about as fast as any bus ever did. An external oil filter was added to the engine before my father purchased it which makes changing the oil a snap. As you can see from the photos, you can pretty much eat off of the engine compartment. My father has attended numerous VW shows in Connecticut over the last few years and has won prizes in the split window category. He loves to take this bus to local car shows and it always attracts a crowd and usually brings home a people's choice award or trophy. Show up at your typical muscle car laden local car show and this baby stands out like a sore thumb and people just flock to it. Everyone loves it. Everyone! If you are looking for a super cool, one of a kind split window VW bus that needs nothing to be driven to a show and just a little elbow grease to be a 100% perfect, this is the bus for you. I cannot stress how solid and reliable this bus is. If I were the one getting the bus I would just plan on replacing the tires with stock correct width as these tires are both worn and too wide for a good ride. Aside from that, I would probably add a better stereo. But that's just me. The bus can be driven if you can get to CT to try it out or if you know someone locally that wants to check it out. She'll fire up and drive perfect, guaranteed. The bus is located in Southington, CT. We figure that someone may wish to purchase the bus from a distance away. We will gladly work with you to coordinate a car delivery service to take the bus to you. You could also fly into Hartford and drive the bus home. It would easily make it across the country, but boy would it be a long trip. Going 55 MPH in one of these buses is pushing it. Because Connecticut will not issue a title on a car over 25 years old, we have a current registration on the car and the Pennsylvania title that came with the bus when my father purchased it. It is all clear. I've tried to take as many photos as I could imagine anyone would want to see. Please look at all of them below. Again, the bus is available for a test drive if you want to come to CT to do so. If I missed your email please recontact me and I'll get you my father's information. Some have asked if we'll let the bus be shipped overseas. That is totally fine with my dad. We live near Boston and New York/Newark and if you can get a car transport agency to bring the bus to the docks then you're more than welcome to take it anywhere you wish. We'll even throw some dryer sheets in the bus to scare away any mice that may live on the ship. Of course before the bus goes anywhere my dad will need to be paid in full. We'll take cash, bank check (once it clears the bank), or bank transfer. Never did a large sale like this before - only sold small things on eBay - so however my father can be assured that the payment is valid and doesn't charge him credit card transaction fees is fine by him.
