1979 BMW 528i - Absolute Time Capsule - 51,700 Original Miles Description 1979 BMW 528i - Fjord Blue exterior with blue leather interior, automatic transmission, one family owned from 1979 - 2011. It has 50,700 original miles. All of the books, manuals, original window sticker, buyer's order, and all associated paperwork is present with the car, I have a stack of service receipts, everything, all records, from day one to present, it's all included in the auction, there is even a period BMW 5 Series dealer brochure. It was originally purchased at Manhattan Auto in Fairfax, VA on June 8, 1979 by the original owner, an airline pilot (see documents below for details, car has $4,000+ worth of optional equipment). This is an absolute time capsule car, it is as close to a new 1979 BMW 5 series as you are likely to find. It has never been Winter driven, there is NO RUST anywhere. The exterior has never been painted, the paint shines, it is completely original paint all the way around, it doesn't even have any paint touch ups. Glass is clear and original, all the way around, rubber trim bits and seals are supple, not dried up and cracked like so many other cars of this age. The car starts right up with a turn of the key, every time. It idles smoothly, does not smoke, it runs and drives extremely well, no pulling to either side, drives straight and true. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly. Under braking there is some light shimmy, it is ready for new brakes. The original owner kept a notebook of every service, oil change, filter change, he was meticulous about record keeping (see photo below of this notebook). There are no dash cracks, the interior, from headliner to carpet, appears as new. The original plaid weave carpet floor mats are with the car and in great condition, they add a great period look to the car. Under the floor mats the original blue carpet is in excellent condition, there are no odd smells in the interior, there has never been any leaking or water damage, ever. It has an operational sunroof, all electric windows work as they should. It is equipped with an aftermarket radio, but the original Blaupunkt 8 Track stereo is with the car and included in the auction. I'm a collector of 70's and 80's specialty German cars (Mostly 911's and M-Benzs) and always have my eye open for high quality, low mile, original German cars of that era, and also Vintage British motorcycles of the 50's and 60's. Chrome and brightwork is shiny and unpitted. The only blemish on the clear coat / paint is this bit under the fuel filler door. Leather is supple and in great condition. I turned 50,700 miles the night these photos were taken. Wood trim is uncracked and in great shape. Electric windows all work. Door jambs are super clean. No cracks on the dash.
