Vehicle Detail

Up for your consideration and without reserve, this 1962 Renault 4 CV. Low miles, mechanically sound, never been hit, and RUST FREE. First of all, I value my ebay reputation, and I'll be describing this car to the best of my ability, and for added bidding confidence I make you this offer: If upon personal inspection, the car is not exactly as I've described it, simply refuse to buy it. I won't hold you to your bid or offer any negative feedback. I will try to cover every aspect of the car's condition, but if you have any specific questions about it that I may have overlooked please ask before you bid! You can see from the pictures how nice the car looks, and it looks this good in person too. The pictures don't hide anything. It's a very nice paint job done in the original color, which can still be seen under the hood (or trunk, whatever you want to call the compartment up front where the engine isn't). It gets driven, but it's not fast enough to have picked up any stone chips up front and it's had such care that it hasn't picked up any other paint flaws large enough to show up on camera even with a close-up. No waves or bad body work either. It's never needed any body work, as it has never been hit or rusty. The car has never been "restored" to where it's lost it's originality, but the things that suffer in the sun (outer paint and soft interior parts) have been sympathetically done in the original colors and style so it looks really nice. Instead of the original 750, the engine is the 850 Gordini a high performance option on the Renault Dauphine and a direct bolt in requiring no modifications. It was rebuilt some years ago and has had less than a 1000 miles on it since. Enough to "prove" it, but far from enough to wear it out! After a run, it "marks it's spot" in two places, but no excessive leakage anywhere in the car. Transmission is the original 3 speed and shifts nicely but being a rear engine/transaxle car the gearshift has plenty of play. It's not vague from wear or anything, but shifts like they always did even when new. High performance tires (Avon CR 338's) make it handle like a go-cart and all are practically new as can be seen in the pictures. Best part about this 4CV is what a great 'round town car it is. It's speed and small size allows it to nip in and out of traffic making it seem even faster than it really is and even the tiniest parking spaces are plenty big. Of course, it's a huge crowd pleaser, so driving it is not for the anti-social, and it always stands out in car shows taking more than it's share of attention against far more exotic vehicles. It's probably the best fun dollar for dollar one can have on 4 wheels, and yet marginally practical! Insures for pennies too... I have a 4-year-old (kid that is) who is even more fun than cars, so I'm selling this car with NO RESERVE! You can bid with confidence that it isn't some "hidden time bomb" within the car or anything like that. If you're just in to old French cars, watch for me to list a nice Peugeot 404 and an old Citroen DS 19 Pallas too (neither one as nice though as this 4CV). For payment on the car I WILL accept all of the usual forms, Paypal, wire transfer, cashier's check, personal check, and I'll offer a 5% discount for cash... I know there are always concerns with cashier's checks and in any event, please understand the funds must clear before the car and title are released. Thanks for considering this fun car, and have fun looking at the pictures. On Oct-12-11 at 21:37:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Ugh! I was showing off the car Wednesday evening, and taking two grown adults for a test-flogging of the car, and the right rear fender got rubbed and a little kinked by the tire. As was mentioned in the listing, the tires are slightly wider and more low-profile than stock, and with three people in the car and some hard cornering (sort of) I got my punishment. It now has noticeable damage, isolated to that fender, and not very bad, but bad enough. Sorry. Also, when parked on smooth concrete, the transaxle leak overnight will spread thinly over about 8 inches. Just thought I would try to "quantify" the amount for anyone who may be curious. Some general "creaks and groans and old car charm" accompanies the driving experience too. I mention this stuff because I want to be sure that the new owner is expecting a 4cv, and not a Lexus! Obviously, if there any bid retractions I completely understand. All this said, Driving around in it was a blast. Thanks for taking the time to check out my car, I'm sort of surprised at it's internet fame right now. Beginning to experience seller's remorse... Ted
