Rare, hard to find 1986 Volvo 240 DL with a 4 speed Manual Transmission w/ overdrive (overdrive button works intermittenly, probable cause: electrical switch on transmission). This car is in excellent mechanical condition and excellent physical condition. The car has been repainted it's original factory color of Teal with a couple small dents/rust spots but NO rust on bottom panels or undercarriage. Does not appear to have been highly exposed to winter/salt conditions. I bought this car for my teenage daughter 9 months ago but she ended up driving my car instead so I need to sell this one. The mechanic says the car has been well maintained and the engine is clean, no oil leaks, which is pretty incredible. I replaced the distributer with a used distributer. It has mostly new wires, hoses,plugs and distributer cap. I have replaced the battery, brakes and rotors. Tires are in Good condition. The interior has beige clothe seats in Excellent condition, to tears or stains. The only damage is the older plastic in the top of the dash which has deteriorated from sun damage. The tape deck and speakers were put in in the last 2 years. The previous owner also bought this for a child and resold it, she upgraded the stereo and replaced wires/hoses/distributer cap, glove box door and rear view mirror. The overhead light and the climate control lights need to be fixed. The odometer is stuck at 205,060, due to the poor quality plastic odometers that were installed in these cars. Manual windows, manual locks, key locks all doors from drivers side door. A.C. belt has been removed, A.C. needs to be upgraded to current standards. It is missing one Volvo hubcap also. This has been a daily driver for me and has been on several longer trips with no mechanical problems, no oil leaks and no overheating. It is very easy to drive, goes 80mph on the highway without much vibration. It is decent on gas, but due to the broken odometer, I have not been able to accurately determine the gas mileage, but I would estimate it at 25mpg. The clutch is also in good condition, no slips. Current Virginia State Inspection good through 9/11. This car is eligible for Antique License Plates this year because it is 25 yrs old and considered in "original" condition. It had 2 owners in California and Oklahoma for 23 years before ending up in Virginia. I purchased it a year ago. I am the 4th owner.****Not a good car for children learning, as the owner before and I both discovered. Great for experienced drivers familiar with less smooth gears and using patience with your automobile. The clutch is stubborn and needs to pressed down an extra 1/2 inch after you think it is down to engage gears, take about a day of cussing to figure out. First gear is really long and you do not need to go into second until you have reached high rpms or second will seem to disappear. Also a good first day driving will make this evident. THE TURN RADIUS on the car is ridiculous! No more 3 point turns, this car can turn all the way around in the street! selling this car is not a great move on my part but I just have too many vehicles and too many insurance bills. I am a taxi driver, a mother, and own an old van and an old school bus and a Nissan for my oldest child and will be getting another car for another daughter soon. This car will last me forever if I keep it and selling it is very shortsighted, but the car is a burden and I need some cash. If I can't sell the car as is for 1500.00 in the next couple days, I will have to cancel the registration and insurance and find a place to park it so I won't be driving it regardless. I would rather someone who wants to love this car please take it. This is a beautiful car that deserves the right owner to baby it. It will last for years to come with simple maintenance, as these 4 speed transmissions are "bulletproof" and last forever with care. Located in Central Virginia: Charlottesville.
