Summary I purchased this amazing car this summer from a fellow Cadillac collector who purchased this beauty in 2006 after the original owners, an elderly couple in Union, South Carolina, had passed away. He needed to sell it to reduce his collection this year and given the quality of the car and the fact that very few of these in this condition have survived over the years, I decided to take him up on it and bought it… Needless to say, I had intended to keep it, but have a new vehicle arriving soon and need a garage space for it so have reluctantly decided to part with this amazing and now very rare vehicle. It is a “floating living room”, and for this and many other reasons I have enjoyed every minute of owning it, and nearly every time the car leaves the garage and is out and about on the road, I receive compliments as to how well kept and preserved this vehicle is. This one can be yours to enjoy for years to come. There are many things that are admirable about this car, notwithstanding that it has the rare vinyl top delete option, very clean lines, nice color combination of Cotillion white / Antique Aqua Interior, and that is only the beginning… The car was originally equipped with a 425 cubic inch 8 cylinder, but given the former owner had already a 1976 Fleetwood as one of his other cars, he knew and appreciated the benefits of the larger 500 cubic inch engine, and elected to swap the 425 for a 500 cubic inch engine. Bigger is better, right? The 500 cid engine made exclusively by Cadillac for the land yachts of the 1970’s was the epitome of power and performance, and was quite reliable too. It is essentially a cast iron V8, with many features that were derived from the earlier engines and continually refined as needed to adapt to the times. For those of you that do not know, this is an easy swap as the engine bay can easily accommodate this and the transmission is suited to both engines. The 500 cubic inch engine was taken from a 1976 Coupe deVille with only 36,000 miles and professionally rebuilt. Parts from MTS (Maximum Torque Specialties) were sourced and installed into the engine. Read more at: www.500cid.com The car runs and drives flawlessly. Most folks that see it on the road have no clue that the car has the 500 cid, and that it could pass them in seconds, much faster than might be expected. The car drives like a dream, is extremely powerful, and is very well dialed-in with hardly any detail or expense spared. I have driven it nearly 1,000 miles since I’ve owned it with no issues. It starts and runs flawlessly, shifts beautifully through the 3 speed Automatic transmission, and is whisper quiet. If you have the air running and the stereo playing, you cannot even hear the engine running! There are no leaks. On top of all of this, nearly $20,000 has been invested in this car since 2006, and I have all receipts to prove the expenses which will be passed along to the new owner! Many of the old cars on eBay have not been maintained or updated over the years as this one has, and this is important. From a cosmetic point of view, the car has been repainted with a high quality repaint in its original color of Cotillion White and the interior carpets were replaced with fresh new floormats. There is nothing like the smell of new carpeting! The original carpet and mats will go with the car. The original mats and carpeting were dirty and dusty, and smelled “old”, so we elected to replace them for a newer and fresher look. Next, the hubcaps on the car are actually not stock to this year; However, the former owner liked these better than the stock 1979 hubcaps, and made the swap. Both sets of hubcaps, current and the vintage 1979 ones, go with the car. The suspension is tight and solid, and drives as if you are driving a Cadillac that is only a few years old. There are no funny noises, or other issues, and the car tracks straight and is in alignment to factory specifications. Mechanically, just about everything has been serviced to perfection on the car (Yes, we know this is fanatical), and the radiator, the water pump, all seals, all hoses, all belts, all fluids, all wear items, have been changed. The transmission seals and gaskets were also changed. The battery and cables are also new, and the battery is a 72 month Delco. All OEM parts have been used where possible. The electrical items all work, with the exception of the power antenna going up and down, but the original stereo radio displays time and station perfectly and brightly, and even plays without the antenna raised! The cruise control works, the brakes are firm and quiet, with high pedal, the steering is precise and has no issues, and all lighting, both interior and exterior, is in perfect working order. The power front seat works as if it was new. The power windows and locks, along with all switches, perform just as if new. The fuel gauge and dash lights all work too. You can watch the fuel gauge move as you drive, too! Ha! The car has certainly been very well cared for during its 32 years, as many of these are now essentially junk. This car does not look 32 years old at all, and could pass for less than 5 years old, if we were back in the ‘80’s. I don’t believe the original owners did much with the car except use it for church on Sunday, and maybe special events with family and friends. It does not appear to have been a daily driver at any point in its life. It is currently garaged at all times and pampered. It has been hand washed and polished, and all service is up to date. Speaking of services, check the list out below. A chronological history of items performed by the prior owner along with myself is below for your review and reference. I cannot think of any part of the car that has not been touched and for the most part, no expense was spared this beauty. Detail of Other Aspects As I’ve previously mentioned, everything works on the car, but the power antenna does not go up/down. The motor for the antenna runs when the radio is turned off/on as it should, if the ignition is “on” and/or if the car is running, but the mast does not go up or down. This generally means only a mast is needed. Not expensive, and less than $100. Ironically, the radio plays most stations and receives good clear reception even without the antenna being up! The rear passenger leather seat has two small tears in it, that are very small and easy to fix. The same company that fixed the dash can repair these for about $100 if you want. The interior side plastic trim panels are slightly faded and should be renewed. Easy fix, and about $200. I can have these done locally by the same company that repaired the dash if you want. The car was painted in 2006, and the paint is nearly flawless, but there are two small chips in the header panel which could be easily touched up. All very, very, minor issues! I cannot see or detect any other things that this car needs. My trained GM technician that has worked on GM products for nearly 35 years has been all over this vehicle and is amazed at its condition.
