Vehicle Detail

SURVIVOR*****1965 MUSTANG*****SURVIVOR This is a very desirable one family owned 1965 Ford Mustang Survivor - The door tag indicates that it's one of the early cars built in September 1964! The photos were taken as we found the car. Unmolested, not restored, with low mileage as odometer shows just over 68,000 miles, which is believed to be actual mileage, but no documentation to support this. The car is all factory; built with the 289 V8 and a 2 barrel carburetor with automatic transmission. We are informed that the car was purchased in New Orleans and used by one family as a third or runabout car mostly around Southern Louisiana and then handed down through the family, hence the relatively low mileage. It has always been garaged! It ended up in SE Texas as a family inheritance in 1992, where it was parked in 1994 in a climate controlled home garage by the Owner and rarely driven, so he has decided to sell this 46 year old Southern State’s car. After our inspection, we informed the Owner that in order to sell the car for someone to enjoy all the critical parts needed repairing or replacing. He agreed, so we did a lot of work to make the car drivable and enjoyable;Hence, we flushed out the old oil, changed the oil filter, added fresh oil; cleaned out the fuel system, rebuilt the carb, fitted a new fuel pump, installed new plugs, leads, cap, rotor, points, etc., rebuilt the starter motor, flushed out the transmission and installed a new trans filter, installed new driveshaft U joints and a battery. We repainted the valve covers and the air cleaner assembly and fitted a new air filter. After a few turns of the engine it fired right up without any smoke, oil leaks or rattles! The car has factory (believed to be dealer installed) Air Conditioning, which ran cold after we replaced the compressor (old comp in photo), tension pulley bearing, compressor clutch, condenser, dryer, lines and charged it. We went over the whole body with a magnet to seek out any filler and we found none. The inner fender’s, firewall and floor pans are in great shape. The under carriage has expected light surface rust but no visible rot. The rear lower quarters, where road debris hits, were repaired at some time and are in good shape. The leaf spring shackle mount areas on the sub-frame are in great shape as is the front sub-frame. We fitted 2 new front sway arm link controls and bushings. The front shocks are also new. The trunk is solid around the gas tank. The Raven Black paint retains its looks and still shines but we consider it a 10-footer or “driver”. The grille and Galloping Mustang emblem are in good shape. The bumper chrome is in good shape, however, the front bumper has a small dent. The stainless trim around the roof rail and rear windshield is in good shape with tiny dents in places, and the vent windows have slight pitting. The interior is in good shape as is the center console, which has an ignition kill switch. The driver seat was recovered with correct material. There is an aftermarket Pony style working AM/FM radio/cassette in the dash. The original AM radio comes with the car, but may not work, in trunk along with the spare tire and a jack. We replaced the warped original dash pad with an aftermarket period correct one. The speedometer and temperature gauge work; also the gas gauge works but sometimes intermittent, the lights and windshield wipers work as does the horn. The windows are manual with good glass with no cracks. The car has factory drum brakes, which we completely serviced; machining the drums, new brake shoes & hardware; along with wheel bearings and seals, and rear end fluid replaced. Also, a couple of exhaust leaks were fixed with new doughnuts at the manifolds and a new exhaust pipe between the manifold and muffler. We mounted 4 new tires. The factory hubcaps are in good driver shape. The car passed the stringent Texas State Safety inspection, thereafter driven all over town at posted speed limits. It drives as you would expect from a 1965 Mustang. Overall, this is a solid driver quality car! However, it’s a 46 year old car; so there is no warranty or implied fitness for any particular purpose; sold "AS IS"Bidders should realize that like any older car, it may require repairs from time to time. $500.00 non refundable deposit by PayPal, with the balance in cash - in person or by bank wire transfer within 5 business days – no other form of payment accepted.
