You are bidding on a 1981 Dodge Charger which is an extremely rare part of our US auto manufacturing history. Produced on the Detroit production line under the request of President Jimmy Carter, a very few number of 1981 Dodge Chargers were modified at the Dodge factory to be all electric vehicles. This is one of the only representatives of the early modern era efforts to create an all electric vehicle known to exist. The Charger has less than 20,000 original miles and comes with a CA license plate that reads "1CLNAIR" which remains with the vehicle. I do have a clear title to this rare Dodge. This would be a great vehicle for a hobbyist or someone into electric vehicle technology to own as a part of the industries relatively recent history. This auction includes an extra set of four steel wheels and eight radial tires in used condition. The 20 deep discharge original batteries are not good and need to be recycled. The Charger has a 220 volt AC charger weighing about 150 lbs. The belly pan of the car covers the entire underside. The lead acid battery pack can be replaced with metal hydride batteries to increase the usable range to about 130 miles. A lithium ion battery pack would increase the range to 160 miles. The DC motor which comes in the vehicle is a 50 horse power unit. The car needs some work in order to be road worthy and currently is not in running condition. It is being sold in as is condition. The car will need a complete going over of all systems before anyone should attempt to drive it. I have clear title to the vehicle and I am the only owner.
