Vehicle Detail

1963 Nova 2-door hardtop: Gasser The “Novanilla” gasser is a recreation of the same type of Nova I drag raced during 1975 & 1976. I am a muscle car collector and attempted to hunt down my former race car after some 35 plus years. Apparently the car was destroyed or is put away and forgotten. The car I am selling was built from scratch in 2009/10. I started with a Wyoming body that was almost rust free. The only repair I had to do was the rear bottom of each quarter panel which rusted from residue in the trunk cavity. The metal was removed, formed new and welded in place. The floor pan and trunk were flawless because the car had been undercoated heavily when new. I located a Tom Medlock/Specialty car complete stub front frame, axle, springs, steering and brakes. This kit was very rare and listed for $3500 new. I fabricated the kit and installed same using the original Nova column shortened. Frame connectors were on the body when I purchased it along with a 4:11 Posi differential I was told set up by Moser with an Auburn Posi. I purchased and installed a 6 point roll cage and drive shaft loop to meet NHRA & AHRA requirements although racing this car was not my intention. Interior is all upholstered using new high back bucket seats from a Kenworth truck. There is an onboard fire extinguisher and parachute release mounted above driver. Simpson racing 6pt seat belt is on driver’s seat only. The passenger seat uses a stock GM belt. The front aluminum tank is an original “Moon” accessory but is plumbed to grill only. Radiator is a new aluminum after market. Vehicle runs cool with no overheating problems. The engine is a 400 SB Chevy totally rebuilt including the heads. Compression I was told was 9.75:1 and a mild hydraulic cam and kit was installed. There is an 11” clutch/flywheel/pressure plate and throw out bearing new on the engine with a 360° explosion proof bell housing. The transmission is a Muncie totally rebuilt with Hurst Competition Plus linkage. Ignition system was magneto but my tuner suggested the complete MSD 7 series for better performance all around. The induction system is Enderle 2-3/16” mechanical fuel injection. I have a primer system added to facilitate starting the car from the driver’s seat requiring no “squirt priming”. Exhaust system is of an unknown manufacturer with 3” short mufflers. The car is loud, shakes like a “top fuel” car and is somewhat radical to drive. It is titled correctly, licensed and insured to drive on the street. The chute is a real “Simpson” and is new and functional. There is a 10 gallon aluminum fuel tank in trunk with the battery and primer pump. The slicks are real “Pie Crust” style made in Oregon and mounted on “Ansen Sprint” wheels. Gauges include a Moroso Mechanical Tachometer driven by the MSD distributor. Oil, amps and engine temperature are all 2-1/2” gauges. Dash warning lights are still active. Headlights, tail lights, brake lights and turn signals are all workable. The speedometer will work if the cable is re-installed. The car is painted 2009 GM white basecoat/clear coat. All lettering and decals are vinyl and can be removed. The vehicle and construction is on You Tube under “Bud Zamins Gasser”. Following construction I have driven it on the street to cruise nights and shows. Again I had no interest in racing it. Everything I could find that was era correct was used on the construction. I consider my work “Top Shelf” but offer no warranty or guarantee. Along with the car comes much paperwork on the injection and ignition. This car burns premium gas with no trouble. I must stress this vehicle is no toy or pleasure to drive. It belongs on a drag-strip but has been made to drive on the street. If you are a novice with cars or expect the comfort and performance of a new Camaro avoid this project. This vehicle draws much attention at every event I have attended. The furthest I have driven at one event was about 15 miles round trip. Fuel capacity is only 10 gallons and it runs very rough with the mechanical injection. I may consider a trade for a pre-71 GM Muscle car if it stock. As all serious sellers I will not accept a bid without good feed- back or a bank note.
