Vehicle Detail
I am selling my 1984 Oldsmobile Firenza GT Hatchback Coupe. When was the last time you saw one? I can't even remember seeing too many of these when they were new! This little hatchback is in above average condition. It has been well maintained and runs and drives well. A full description of the vehicle condition follows. I'm really enjoying driving this car- I'm getting a lot of thumbs-up at lights, and not a day goes by that someone doesn't ask me "What kind of car is that?" It's got some very 80's styling cues that make it stand out in a crowd. Please inspect the car prior to bidding- I am happy to show the car to all interested parties. Make sure that you intend to buy if bidding. BODY Overall, the body is in excellent condition. I believe this car wears all of its original paint. The paint is in better-than-average condition, and shines/reflects well after waxing. It has a nice smooth surface overall. The GT/ Firenza logos on the doors and stripes are in presentable condition, with signs of touchups, but still look fantastic for the age of these stick-on graphics. This car was sold new in Woodland Hills, California, and has been in California its entire life. There is no rust anywhere, as you'd expect from a Southern California car. There are some scuffs and scrapes, dents and dings, and a complete inventory of issues follows: The hood opens and closes easily with the interior hood latch, the hood prop is present and works. There are no dings in the hood, and appears to be fitted as it left the factory. The driver's side front fender has a small crease that is approximately 6" long and the lower 1/4 forward of the wheel well. I could not get a photograph that shows it very well. You can see the scuff around it in the photos in the description. The driver's door opens and closes from the exterior and interior with the handles. The door lock works with the key issued from the factory. The fit is as left the factory in Kansas City, Missouri. There are two medium (approx 4" in length) dings in the door, but as the car is white, I could not get it to photograph so that it is visible. The weatherstripping is present and in serviceable condition. The rear quarter driver's side panel has no issues, free of dents dings and scratches. The rear of the car is in good condition; however there are many small nicks at the bottom of the bumper- it appears that someone backed into something repeatedly for years while parking. It can be seen in the photographs. The bumper has scuffs on it at the left corner. The rear hatch opens properly with the key issued from the factory. The weatherstripping surrounding the hatch is present and in serviceable condition. There are no dents, dings or scuffs along the lower edge of the hatch. The passenger rear 1/4 panel has three tiny dings (dime-sized) in a line just below the window trim. Again, with the car being white, it is a challenge to get it to show in photographs. The passenger door opens and closes with the exterior and interior handle. The door lock works. The weatherstripping surrounding the door is present and in good condition. There are two small dime-sized dings just below the door lock and above the beltline trim. The front passenger side fender has no issues. The header panel has no dings, but the bumper has crazing at both corners. The roof has no dents, dings, or scratches. All turn signals, headlights, taillights, and running lights work. All lenses are in excellent condition, save for a cracked parking lamp/turn signal lens on the passenger side front. It is visible in the photos. The wheels are in excellent condition, but are missing one of of the wheel trim rings. I am trying to source a replacement or a full set. All of the badging is present on header and rear panels. INTERIOR The interior is in excellent condition, with a few condition issues. The carpet is charcoal gray, and has no signs of wear, holes, or cigarette burns. The dashboard pad has no cracks or warping, and is in excellent condition. The dashboard panel has no scratches or scuffs. All of the gauges work, and the GT package includes a tachometer, oil pressure gauge, temp gauge, and amp gauge- all of which are operable. The headlight switch works. The wipers work, as does the windshield washer. The turn signal stalk is peeling some of the chrome finish. The cigarette lighter works. The dashtop cash/change tray and cover are clean and in excellent condition. The A/C works (ice cold in the desert where temps are still in the 100s), as do all the other settings on the ventilation system, heater included. The AM/FM/Cassette player is in working condition. The power antenna does not extend or retract, but is in the fully extended position. The glove compartment door opens and closes with the 'squeeze' latch, and the interior of the glove compartment is clean, and owner's manual, audio system manual, and warranty info are present. The dome light lens is missing its lens and the bulb is not present. I am trying to find one before the auction end, but cannot guarantee that it will be installed. The headliner was replaced less than a year ago, and is in excellent condition. The sunvisors are both in excellent condition. I had the carpet and seats professionally steam-cleaned, and they look fantastic. The driver's seat is in excellent condition overall, with some wear on the upper and lower side bolsters: the pile on the solid-color velour has worn off, but there are no holes. The checker pattern in the seat biscuit and seat back biscuit is in excellent shape. The passenger seat is in excellent shape. Both passenger and driver's door panels are in excellent shape, no cracking or fading. There appears to be a broken clip inside the driver's door that causes the panel to rattle over bumps. If you press on the door, the rattle stops, but I have not investigated to see what isn't fastened properly. The rear seat side panels are in excellent shape. The rear seat upholstery is in excellent shape. There is a condition issue at the top of the rear seat back: the constant sunshine of Southern California has taken its toll on the velour. It has started to split. I believe that it should be conserved by removing the upholstery and have a backing applied to the backside of the seat cover, and reinstalled. The rear cargo panels are all in excellent shape. There appears to be a little fading, but it is minor. The cargo area light works. The carpet in this area is a little threadbare looking, but still is in presentable condition. The spare tire well is a little dirty, but all the tools, jack, and original space saver spare is present, as is the factory equipment data sticker. The build sheet is with the car, and was found taped to the inside of the roof panel when original headliner was removed for replacement. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN This car has the OHC 4-cylinder 1.8 liter engine. The car starts easily when cold or hot. It runs quietly with no knocking, pinging, or hesitation. It's not a fast car, because of the automatic transmission, which was the chief complaint of owners of these cars when they were new. Unfortunately, the 6-cylinder powerplant wasn't available until 1985. The engine bay is clean and tidy, with no leaks of coolant, oil, or transmission fluid present. There are no drips on the garage floor when parked. The transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, forward and reverse. The A/C compressor functions quietly. The shocks are in good condition (although the ride is what I would call harsh, I'm a full-sized car guy). The car tracks straight, and there is no wandering. The car brakes evenly and the brakes do not show signs of wear. The tires are in fair condition, but should be replaced if you are planning a long trip. The CV joints do not click/make noise, and my mechanic said the CV boots are in good condition- I can only see the driver's side boot.
