Vehicle Detail
1971MGB This is a great a little MGB for sale. It would make a good daily driver or drive-while-you-restore candidate. I have had it for 8 years or so. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner. I have driven it maybe 1,000 miles since. The odometer shows 35,068, but this cannot be verified as accurate since the speedometer is not currently working (the cable needs to be reinstalled I believe). It runs good (good oil pressure), and the transmission shifts into the gates as expected. The electronics are in good condition with the exception of the rear taillamps – possible that the power lead may have come loose. I did have it professionally tuned up last year, however because it has been sitting since it may need another tune up. I jump-started it up and drove it last month, and it ran well. The alternator was checked last year and met the OEM specifications for its output. The battery is currently dead, however I will provide a $50 gift certificate to Sears to the winning bidder (that’s where I purchased the last battery). The body is in good shape (no rust or dents), and I had a paint job done a few years ago (was green, now deep blue). I kept it garaged and covered during the winters, and only have driven it from the months of May thru October). The top is in great shape (a tiny tear by driver’s rear, but will not be a problem). I bought this vehicle intending on making it a really good driver’s car. I have updated many items on this vehicle including: Stripped out interior, added carpetingStripped down seats to bare metal, added new springs, foam, and seat coversAdded wood steering wheel and shift knobAdded AM/FM/CD Pioneer stereoAdded roll barAdded new bonnetAdded new door trim panels and window handlesNew clutch slave cylinderNew distributor with Petronix ignitionNew flame thrower coilNon-OEM wire wheels (need a little cleaning). Tires are in good shape, but might need balancing due to sitting.New center armrestNew headlamp switch and turn signal switchExtra PARTS: I will include five original rostyle wheels that are straight but will need cleaning and painting.Original distributor with extra Flame Thrower coilsPace Setter exhaust system that I never got around to installing. Two bullet mirrorsSunvisors (have not tried to see if they fit or not)Two door handles that I never got around to installing.MGB workshop manual (Haynes??) I hope that the winning bidder will enjoy. I simply do not have the time to take it to the next level…….. I have tried to list this car to the best of my ability and knowledge, please feel free to ask questions….. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. On Aug-01-11 at 12:53:30 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional notes/response from EBayer questions: I don't remember if the carpet was from Moss or Victoria or other. I bought it from a guy on EBay some time ago. Some of the rear carpet panels will need to be reinstalled (I took them off while I was working on the vehicle and haven't replaced them yet). Also, I just noticed yesterday that a mouse has nibbled on a few pieces of the foam for the rear carpet (its not very noticeable, but I want to be honest about everything). The body was in good condition when I replaced the carpet (no rust at that time that I could see). I purchased the vehicle from a guy in Delaware, who told me that the car was originally from the southern states. Earl Schieb (spelling) painted the car. They did not do the best job in the world since there is some evidence of green that can be seen when looking thru the front grille. Not very noticeable, but again I wanted to make sure that everything was explained to the best of my ability. I can't get the car up on a hoist (unfortunately no pics), but I did not notice any big issues when I used the creeper to get a look underneath. The brakes are adequate, but probably could use some newer pads in the near future. I personally prefer a good brake bite feel, so my plan was to upgrade the brake system at some point. The engine is OK, but needs a tune up. Sometimes on initial start ups (especially on colder days) it takes a little longer to crank up than what I would like. When I originally bought the vehicle, it would fire right up. That's why I am saying that I think a good tune up should do the trick. However, when the engine does warm up, it does run at highway speeds without a problem (I have not driven it past 70mph). I had the carburators cleaned last year by my mechanic. They should still be OK. Please remember that it will not start up right now due to the dead battery...... The transmission shifts as expected. The tires will need rebalancing. The wheel/tires are non-OEM (as shown in the pic). They are installed with adapters. As mentioned though, I have 5 original rostyle wheels included in this auction for those who want to convert back to the original wheels.
