Vehicle Detail

1991 Honda Civic DX Hatchback Car truly excellent only 96k This remarkable Civic DX hatchback comes with complete records from its birth in August, 1991 (one family ownership throughout). This car has always been garaged, and has had oil changes every 3000 miles (with records to prove this). This was my mother’s car (really!), and was gently driven at about 45mph on country roads in Penna and Maryland. I inherited it in 2004 and have kept it as an occasional use car since then. The car has not been used for work commuting (I take the train), and has seen very little winter driving. I am taking an overseas job—so unfortunately for me I must sell. The car, however, has been maintained and cared-for with the idea that I was going to keep it forever, so the car is up to date on all scheduled maintenance and I have not skimped on its care. This is a 4th generation Civic DX with all the extras that came with the DX models, and it has a 4 speed automatic transmission. The engine is a 1.5 litre (see the photo of the window sticker for all the specifics). These are great cars to drive—they handle like a dream with a wide, low stance and the double-wishbone suspension. The interior is in excellent condition and features the upgraded cloth interior (upgraded over the base model). You can read more about 4th generation Civics at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic_(fourth_generation) The positives with this car: very clean, non-smoking car that has been very gently used and always well-maintained, with most of the maintenance performed at the dealer. (I have seen two-year-old cars that show much more wear). The paint and exterior are excellent, the underside and engine bay are clean (although they have never been washed—so you are seeing their true condition in the photos). There has never been any bodywork or repainting on this car. The interior is also excellent—this car has not been smoked in and has always been kept very clean. The car has Michelin Harmony all-season tires with about 80% tread left (these are excellent, and expensive, tires). All required maintenance has been done—the car drives very well. Negatives for the car are few. I had the air conditioning, which was dealer installed at purchase, retrofitted to R134a in 2008 (this is the more modern standard). It does not blow as cold as it should. If you want ac in this car, you’ll probably need to have it looked at. Despite loving ac, I have found I do fine with the windows down—it just takes some metal adjustment. This is the only mechanical issue I know of. Cosmetically, on the exterior, there are three small flaws on the passenger side: the door rail on the passenger door has been hit by other doors opening into it in parking lots twice, with two small indentations (see photos). There is a bubble in the paint just aft of the rear passenger wheel (about the size of a pencil eraser), and there are a few paint scrapes on the passenger rear bumper (these are small—again see the photos). Inside, there is an abrasion of the headliner above the passenger seat (about the size of a quarter-see photo), and a small seam repair in the driver seat bolster that has been carefully resewn. The passenger rear floor mat is gone—the other 3 are all there and in very good shape. (The original carpet, throughout the car and beneath the floor mats, is almost like new). The original radio has been replaced with a nice quality Pioneer CD player with detachable face (professionally installed). If the original radio is important I can probably find it, but I can’t promise it. Otherwise the car is remarkable cosmetically, as the photos show. When I was car shopping last year I drove this car into the local Honda dealership and the dealership owner came out and was hoping I was going to trade this Civic in—he wanted to display it in the showroom. It is a rare trip out in this car when I don’t get comments from someone about how great it looks. The young guys at the gas station beg me to sell it every time I go in. Valet parking it yesterday, six valet guys came over to check it out. This is an original, largely unmolested car in excellent overall condition. It comes with all service records, original window sticker and manual, and original sales brochures. Despite my superlatives, it is an older car—things will crop up that need attention. However, this has been, and should continue to be, a very inexpensive car to operate. It has never needed any repair beyond the basics you would expect and the scheduled services (except maybe a radiator replacement, that I did preemptively a few years ago). The most recent work on the car has been the new tires, and a completely new exhaust system. At 100K it is due for a tune-up, and it is due another 3000 mile oil change at 97,900 (I last had the oil changed in January, 2011 at 94,900-so I’ve only driven it just over 1000 miles so far this year). The car was manufactured by Honda Canada in August, 1991, so it was late in the 1991 model year. The paint color is Tahitian Green Pearl (absolutely gorgeous color in this remarkably boring era of car colors we are in today.) The photos were taken in the last few days. Some of the photos show the covers off the wheels, to show the condition of the wheels (excellent, very clean). More photos are available upon request. The car is in the Boston area—contact me if you wish to see it.There is a YouTube video of this car, titled "Tahitian Green Pearl 1991 Civic DX" or here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyxcHlNxhMA $250 payment via Paypal is due 24 hours after the end of auction.
