Vehicle Detail

This is an estate sale and this 1977 MGB has to be sold to the highest bidder. The car was purchased new in Greenville SC and has stayed in Greenville –Spartanburg since that time. The car is a one-owner car with extensive documentation from time of purchase up to the time of owner’s recent death. This car was the owner’s sole mode of transportation with mileage to prove it. Car is presently located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Fly into the local GSP airport, we'll pick you up and you can drive the car home. The odometer reads 93,000. I have found documentation for 100 and 200 thousand miles. So this puts the mileage at 293,000. These cars do not achieve this type of mileage without good maintenance and there is documentation to support such maintenance. The overall condition is good. The paint is within 5 years old. The paint is a PPG base coat with a PPG clear coat on top. The paint shows some sanding marks that came up due to shrinkage in the primer but otherwise the paint is very presentable. There is no rust that I can see. The engine is in good shape, runs and pulls strong with a warm oil pressure of 60 psi. There is an oil leaks that appears to be coming from the access panels to the lifters. There has been modification to the original engine. The engine has been rebuilt. The single Stromburg was replace with dual SU Model HS. The original Lucas alternator was replaced with a single wire GM alternator. The original Lucas starter was replaced with a more modern high torque starter. The original Lucas electronic ignition system was replaced with a Lucas 24D point and condenser distributor. The interior is in good condition along with the top. The seats are leather with no tears. The leather has shown some signs of shrinking but otherwise is in good shape. The carpet is also in good shape with the exception of the storage compartment in the passenger foot well. When the carpet was replaced, there was a worn spot on this compartment created by his daughter as she rode in the car while growing up and using it as a footrest. He did not want to part with that memory and left that part as it was. The original steering wheel was replaced with a Moto-Lita. The engine and trunk are also presentable. The car has been lowered using Moss Motors lowering kit. The shocks, king pins, and steering rack all appear to be in good condition. The windshield is in good shape with no cracks and the rubber is also in good shape. If you are looking for a totally original car, then this is not it. But is you are look for a good reliable everyday drive, then this is a good choice. This car has a couple of problems that I am aware of. When at a stop with your foot on the brake, the engine idle will creep up. Once your foot is removed from the brake the idle will go back down to 1,000 rpm. I believe there is a problem in the brake booster. Other than this, the brakes worked fine. The original cooling fans were replaced years ago. There is an external thermostat to control the fans. Just before the owner’s death, the thermostat stopped working. The fans were temporarily hooked up to work off the ignition bypassing the thermostat. Unfortunately, time did not permit to fix it properly. The suspension has urethane bushing. It appears these bushing make quite a bit of noise when the suspension is moving.
