Vehicle Detail
For sale: 1984 Mercedes 300GDT Short wheel base History: This G Wagen left the factory in Graz, Austria late 1983 and was imported and federalized by Europa International, based out of Sante Fe, New Mexico. If you are not familiar, Europa was first to legally import and federalize the G Wagen to meet US DOT/EPA/NHTSA requirements. During the federalization process the glass was replaced, seatbelts changed, headlamps and lights changed, emission devices added as well as many other items that had to be converted or replaced to meet US standards. From what I’ve been told the landed cost of this G Wagen in the 80’s was around $80,000 USD. I have the DOT Bond Release paperwork stating that this vehicle meets or surpasses US safety and emissions requirements. The way the truck sits with the options it has it is probably 1/100 in the United States. Chances of you seeing another like it are almost 0. The truck was originally a 280GE but was professionally converted by Warren Thibault of Quebec to a 300GD with an OM617.95 diesel. Noteworthy features: -OM617.95 Turbo Diesel engine (Same as found in mercedes diesel sedans of the era) -Locking front and rear differentials -4x4 -3.5" suspension lift -35" tires -Recaro seats -Frame sliders -Aftermarket head unit and speakers -Rhino lining on the lower door skins and underbody Various parts have been gone through and replaced such as: - Brand new window crank handles - New water pump, new thermostat - New Bosch starter - Brand new re cored radiator - Door seals, various interior parts -etc Drivetrain information: - All three drive shafts replaced - 6.17:1 axle ratio gears installed by Europa International (*Very, VERY rare) - New CVs and front axle bearings/seals - 3.5" spring lift with long travel aluminum body shocks (custom built to specification by Gelandekraft) - Longer DOT stainless steel brake lines - 2:1 Reduction VG080 transfer case Misc information: As far as issues with the truck, the engine sweats a bit of oil. This is common on all 617 turbo diesel engines and is NOT a major issue by any means. It is normal. The rear transfer case seal also is sweating a little bit of transmission fluid, but not even enough to show a decrease in fluid levels in the reservoir. Title/Legal Information: I hold this title clean and clear under my name. It is a NY state title. It should also be said that I also have a copy of the original DOT Bond Release form issued by the NHTSA which shows and renders this vehicle is 100% legal for road use in the United States. I also have a large assortment of service records, invoices, receipts as well as the original Owner’s Manuals in both German and English. No rust/rot. NOTE: The reason for sale is because the truck does currently not MOVE. On my way home from purchasing it almost 6 months ago, the truck suffered a transmission failure. Originally this truck came with the extremely RARE (And therefore difficult to replace) GETRAG 5 speed (Possibly 1/22 in the USA from what I understand). I decided it would be more economical and quicker to replace it with an automatic, so I began to install a 722.3 Automatic from a 300SD Mercedes, but have since ran out of time to finish the project. As the truck sits right now, the 722.3 is physically bolted to the motor and just needs the vacuum line, linkages, and drive shafts re-installed to become a working truck again. I have all the parts to successfully install the transmission. However, I will include with the sale all of the manual transmission parts including the clutch hydraulics, rare 300D flywheel, and clutch kit. Enjoy the deal, and bring a trailer.
