1940 Ford Deluxe V-8 Coupe 85 hp. Local collector purchased this Ford October, 2010 just prior to his passing in February, 2011, and it is being offered by his Estate. This is a genuinely beautiful example of pre-war American design. From the art-deco styling accents to the technical innovation of the legendary flathead Ford V-8, it is an exceptional automobile. As you will see in the attached photographs, the car is in terrific condition. The body is smooth and flowing, with no evidence of prior body damage, though there are a couple of minor chips here and there. The chrome bumpers and trim are clean and free of dents or damage, and the original steel wheel rims are shod with wide whitewalls and factory Ford Deluxe hubcaps, including that on the spare. All exterior lighting is fully functional, and the bezels surrounding the headlights and taillights are free of pits. This is a rust-free car. The tan cloth interior compliments the burgundy exterior very nicely. Amenities include a 3-speed column shifted manual transmission, and a factory radio, a heater, and roll up windows. The dash is completely original, and the bezels surrounding the instruments, the control knobs, and the chrome trim are all in superb condition. All interior lighting is fully functional. The engine, suspension, brakes, and steering perform well. The V-8 starts immediately, and the exhaust note reflects the V-8 burble so desired by Ford enthusiasts. There is no smoke or richness of carburetion, and the clutch is smooth and easy. Torque is high, such that first gear is most suitable for pulling away from stops, and second gear comes quickly. One might be very pleasantly suprised at the absence of "slop" or "play" in the steering, brakes, and suspension. The wiper arms were removed in shipping and have not been re-installed, and will be prior to sale. As well, the clock was removed for repair and that work has been done, and installation is pending. This Ford Deluxe was purchased from a San Diego owner, and is in original, unrestored condition. From the original flathead V-8 to the factory hubcaps to the original radio and the small chips in the running board rubber, it's an original, beautiful car, suitable for parades, Sunday afternoon drives, car clubs, and having fun and tinkering with.
