Vehicle Detail
This auto was inspected by Alex Dearborn on July 13th 2011 and the following write up was done by Alex Dearborn. 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Coupe. Light grey-beige with black leather interior and removable hardtop. Chassis #12104010025656 Engine # 12192810003549. odometer: 76,468 miles. Color code 158. This is a beautiful vintage car with Mercedes-Benz build quality. How many 'fifties and 'sixties sports cars can you find with roll-up windows, leather interiors, courtesy lights, heater and defroster systems that work, map lights, clocks, and reliable overhead-cam engines? How many manufacturers still support their 50-year-old cars with replacement parts? This was a one-owner California car until 2004, when it was purchased by the present owner. Since then, its been kept in dry storage winters and driven about 4000 miles. It won a regional club concours in 2004. The older repaint, to the original light grey-beige, is showing wear, and the rubber mats and carpets need replacing. The car was delivered as a coupe with removable hardtop; as such, there is no soft top. The car will accept a soft top if one can be found. The hardtop is is good original condition. Extensive records document the ownership and service history of the car. It was ordered by the west-coast owner in late 1962 for tourist delivery in Germany. Shipped to the west coast in December 1962, it lived in Washington state and California until recently. In 2005, Paul Russell and Co did a $12,000 major service, which included overhauling the cylinder head and carburetors. The car now starts easily, and runs as it should. It is extremely rare to find such a rust-free, well-documented unrestored 190SL . The records include: 1962 European-delivery order from MB dealer in San Francisco 1962 MB Factory invoice to original owner. (December 1962) 1962 Manufacturer's Statement of Origin from Daimler-Benz 1963 shipping papers, Bremen / Newark. 1963 California "pink slip" registration. 1967-2004 original owner's service records. (shows present accumulated mileage to be 176,468.) 2001 original owner's California title 2004 bill of sale from original owner to current owner. 2004 present owner's title 2005-2011 Present owner's service records.
