THIS IS MY 1956 FORD FAIRLANE TWO DOOR CLUB SEDAN. IT HAD A COMPLETE FRAME ON RESTORATION IN 2002 INCLUDING BODY PREP, RUST REPAIR, PAINT, NEW FRONT CROSSMEMBER, POLISHED STAINLESS TRIM, NEW CHROME GRILLE, RECHROMED BUMPERS, NEW INTERIOR, BILLIT SPECIALTIES TILT COLUMN AND STEERING WHEEL, 2 SPEED ELECTRIC WINDSHIELD WIPERS WITH POLISHED STAINLESS ARMS AND BLADES, REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SOLENIODS AND ELECTONIC IGNITION LOCKOUT, AUTOMETER PRO-COMP GUAGES, COMPLETELY REBUILT FORD 351 ENGINE, GM POWER STEERING BOX CONVERSION, FRONT DISC BRAKES, POWER BRAKES, REBUILT FORD 8 INCH REAREND, REBUILT TOPLOADER 4 SPEED, 2.25 INCH FLOWMASTER EXHAUST AND ETC, ETC. THE CAR HAS HAD 5,551 MILES PUT ON IT SINCE 2002. THIS CAR HAS BEEN IN MY HEATED AND AIR CONDITIONED SHOP AND HAS NEVER SEEN RAIN OR SNOW SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT. THIS 56 WAS NOT INTENDED TO BE A SHOW CAR BUT A FAST, DEPENDABLE, COMFORTABLE AND EASY TO DRIVE CAR THAT IS A LOT OF FUN TO DRIVE WITH AN EMPHASIS ON HIGH PERFORMANCE. THE POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES AND FRONT DISC BRAKES MAKE THIS CAR DRIVE AND HANDLE LIKE A MUCH NEWER AND MORE MODERN CAR INSTEAD OF THE PRIMITIVE DRIVING EXPERIENCE OF STOCK CARS OF THIS VINTAGE WITH MANUAL STEERING AND MANUAL DRUM BRAKES. IN THE PAST YEAR I HAVE ADDED MANY NEW UPGRADES TO THE CAR TO MAKE IT EVEN FASTER, MORE FUN TO DRIVE AND BETTER LOOKING. I WILL GO THROUGH EACH PART OF THE CAR IN DETAIL IN THE FOLLOWING SECTIONS TO HOPEFULLY ANSWER ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS. ENGINE - THE ENGINE IS A COMPLETELY REBUILT EARLY 69 351 WINDSOR WITH 10.5 COMPRESSION AND HAS A MILD CAM THAT HAS TERRIFIC MID RANGE POWER AND TORQUE UP TO 5,500 RPM WITH A BARELY NOTICEABLE IDLE LOPE. I SEE EBAY ADS ALL THE TIME THAT SAY AN ENGINE IS "STONG RUNNING" OR "AWESOME SOUNDING" OR SIMILAR STATEMENTS THAT DON'T TELL YOU ANYTHING ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE ENGINE. I AM ALMOST 70 YEARS OLD AND HAVE BEEN WORKING ON CARS, MODIFYING CARS, BUILDING ENGINES AND DRAG RACING CARS FOR OVER 55 YEARS. MY EXPERIENCE HAS TAUGHT ME THAT BESIDES THE OBVIOUS SIGNS OF PROBLEMS LIKE SMOKING, BLOWBY, DIRTY OIL, ETC, THE TWO BEST INDICATORS OF AN ENGINE'S OPERATING CONDITION ARE A VACUUM GUAGE TEST AND THE OIL PRESSURE THAT THE ENGINE HAS AT VARIOUS RPMs. ENGINE OPERATING PROBLEMS, LIKE A LEAKING VALVE OR VALVE QUIDES, POOR RING SEAL ON A CYLINDER, A SLIGHT MISS ON A CYLINDER, AND SIMILAR PROBLEMS CAN EXIST BUT CAN BE INPRECEPTIBLE UNTIL THE PROBLEM GETS WORSE AND THE ENGINE HAS TO BE TORN DOWN FOR REPAIRS. THE VACUUM GUAGE WILL REVEAL ALL KINDS OF ENGINE PROBLEMS BY LOW VACUUM AT IDLE OR THE GUAGE NEEDLE MOVING AROUND OR FLUTTERING. YOU CAN READ ABOUT HOW TO DIAGNOSE ENGINE PROBLEMS BY WHAT THE GUAGE NEEDLE DOES. MY 56 FORD CARRIES A ROCK STEADY 17 POUNDS OF VACUUM AT IDLE WITH NO NEEDLE MOVEMENT AT ALL. THIS INDICATES THE ENGINE HAS NO INTERNAL OPERATING PROBLEMS. IT CARRIES 25 POUNDS OF OIL PRESSURE AT HOT IDLE AND UP TO 70 POUNDS AT HIGHER RPMS WHEN HOT. THE ENGINE NEVER GOES OVER 175 DEGREES EVEN ON THE 100+ DEGREE DAYS WE HAVE HERE IN KANSAS. ABOUT 9 MONTHS AGO I MADE THE FOLLOWING UPGRADES TO THE ENGINE: NEW POLISHED PRO COMP HURRICANE POLISHED INTAKE AND NEW EDELBROCK 650 CFM MANUAL CHOKE CARB; NEW HOLLEY POLISHED AIR CLEANER; NEW SFI HARMONIC BALANCER; NEW MARCH POLISHED PULLEYS; NEW EDELBROCK HIGH FLOW CHROME WATER PUMP; NEW FLEXILITE ALUMINUM FAN; NEW POWERMASTER 100 AMP CHROME ALTERNATOR; NEW GM CHROME POWER STEERING PUMPAND HOSES; NEW POLISHED HEI DISTRIBUTOR AND 8 MM PLUG WIRES; NEW FORD RACING POLISHED BOSS ROCKER ARM COVERS AND VARIOUS OTHER SMALLER PARTS. TRANSMISSION & CLUTCH - ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO I INSTALLED A NEW CENTERFORCE SFI FLYWHEEL WITH A NEW DUAL FRICTION PRESSURE PLATE, CLUTCH DISK AND THROWOUT BEARING SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED FOR A FORD T5 FIVE SPEED. I ALSO INSTALLED A T5 FIVE SPEED TRANSMISSION THAT WAS COMPLETELY REBUILT WITH ALL NEW BEARINGS, SYNCROS AND NEW HIGH STRENGTH HARDENED STEEL GEARS ALONG WITH A NEW HURST SHORT THROW SHIFTER. I WANTED THE T5 FOR THE .68 OVERDRIVEN FIFTH GEAR THAT TURNS THE 4:11 REAREND INTO A 2:79 HIGHWAY GEAR FOR REDUCED RPM ON THE ROAD. THE T5 SHIFTS VERY SMOOTH AND POSITIVE IS A HUGE IMPROVEMENT OVER THE FOUR SPEED. REAREND - ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO I INSTALLED A NEW FORD 8 INCH HIGH STRENGTH CENTER SECTION WITH ALL NEW BEARINGS, NEW 4:11 RING AND PINION WITH A NEW DETROIT LOCKER UNIT. LIKE ALL DETROIT LOCKERS, THE REAREND IS NOISY WHEN TURNING AT SLOW SPEEDS AS THE LOCKER RATCHETS. THE REAR BRAKES WERE REBUILT AT THAT TIME WITH NEW WHEEL CYLINDERS, BRAKE SHOES, SPRINGS, ETC. WHEELS & TIRES - CAR HAS NEW FOOSE LEGEND CHROME WHEELS: 18"X7" FRONT AND 18"X8" REAR WITH BF GOODRICH G-FORCE RADIALS, ALL WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES. HOOD - I AM IN THE PROCESS OF INSTALLING A CUSTOM FIBERGLASS HOOD WITH A FIBERGLASS 1957 FORD THUNDERBIRD HOOD SCOOP MADE FOR ME BY M&K FIBERGLASS. I THINK THE HOOD IS VERY COOL AND LOOKS "JUST RIGHT" ON THE CAR. THID HOOD IS TOTALLY UNIQUE, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER ONE LIKE IT. I HAVE INSTALLED GAS STRUTS TO RAISE THE HOOD AND HOLD IT UP, ALSO VERY COOL. THE HOOD WILL NEED FINAL FITTING, PAINTED ON THE BOTTOM, PRIMING, PAINT PREP AND MATCHING PAINT ON THE TOP. A NEW THUNDERBIRD CHROME GRILL FOR THE SCOOP WILL COST ABOUT $85.00. I STILL HAVE AND WILL REINSTALL THE STOCK HOOD IF THE BUYER WOULD RATHER HAVE IT (SEE PIC). INTERIOR - I INSTALLED LEATHER LEXUS 8-WAY ADJUSTABLE POWER SEATS AND A LEATHER CENTER CONSOLE, NEW SCUFF PLATES, FLOOR MATS, SHIFTER BOOT, ETC, ETC. I HAVE SOME NEW INTERIOR PARTS LIKE DOOR HANDLES, WINDOW CRANKS, LOCK BUTTONS AND ETC THAT I HAVE NOT GOTTEN AROULD TO INSTALLING YET. OPERATING FEATURES - THE HEADLIGHTS; TAIL LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS; PARK LIGHTS; BACKUP LIGHTS; TAG LIGHT; TURN SIGNALS; EMERGENCY FLASHERS; DOME LIGHT; HEATER; EMERGENCY BRAKES; SPEEDOMETER, OIL, FUEL, HEAT, VOLT GUAGES AND TACH ALL WORK EXACTLY AS THEY SHOULD. THE HORN DOES NOT WORK. THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY HAS QUIT WORKING. THE RADIO DOES NOT WORK BECAUSE THE ANTENNA WAS REMOVED DURING RESTORATION. THESE ARE THE ONLY THREE OPERATING FEATURES I AM AWARE OF THAT NEED ATTENTION. THERE ARE SOME RUST BUBBLES SHOWING UP ON THE BOTTOM OF THE TRUNK LID DUE TO POOR PAINT PREP IN THAT AREA. IF I WAS GOING TO KEEP THE CAR I WOULD INSTALL SEAT BELTS AND PUT AN UNDER DASH A/C IN IT. SUMMARY - IF YOU WANT A UNIQUE, COMFORTABLE, GOOD LOOKING CAR THAT GETS LOTS OF LOOKS AND THUMBS UPTHAT YOU CAN DRIVE ANYWHERE AND IS EASY TO DRIVE AND HAS BLAZING ACCELERATION, THEN THIS IS YOUR CAR. THE ONLY REASON I AM SELLING THE 56 IS BECAUSE AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF LOOKING I HAVE FINALLY FOUND AN TRULY OUTSTANDING 64 FALCON HARTOP. MY WORK SHOP ONLY HAS THREE SPACES AND I CAN'T BRING MY SELF TO PART WITH MY 47 CADILLAC OR THE 31 MODEL A THAT I BUILT SO THE 56 HAS TO GO.
