Vehicle Detail
1962 Ford F-100 long bed "Custom Cab" pickup 292 V-8 with 3-spd column shifter ("3 on the tree") Up for auction is a 1962 Ford F-100 pickup with the 8 foot (long) bed. It has the 292 cubic inch V-8 engine with a three speed column shifter (3 on the tree). This truck was originally a red and silver two-tone (according to the VIN as well as the occasional glimpse of old paint). I will include a shop manual and some other parts -if the buyer is interested. I purchased it and drove it from Arizona to Virginia a little over three years ago. There are a few rust issues (as I've tried to show in the photos). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to include every picture I wanted to (didn't realize eBay has a 24 picture limit). But, if you want me to, I can supply everything I just took or only particular photos if there is anything that raises a particular concern. I don't drive it often (last used at the end of April to take some stuff to the local dump). Mileage is anyone's guess, but the odometer read X37,142 the last time the speedometer cable broke on me. Obviously, I'm not concerned with speeding. But, she still manages to move stuff around when I ask her to. If you're interested in buying the truck, let me know if you would like any additional information or pictures, and I'll try to oblige. Also, I will work with the buyer to arrange for vehicle shipping or pickup. Known issues: Body surface rust on frame and bed some small dents and spots of rust on the body rusted front cab mounts. But, rear cab mounts are solid headlight/Tailight wiring is odd with a second switch for just the tail lights (haven't done anything with it because it works) small leaks in weatherstripping door vent wing windows are caulked shut. But, roll-down windows work well driver's window has some scratches from the mechanism. but, nothing horrendous not the stock tailgate (previous owner's homemade tailgate -works, but makes the bed 1/2" too short to close with 8' plywood or drywall) bed has two small holes (neither one looks to me like they started with rust) no "Custom Cab" script trim pieces for the door Interior ammeter does not work seat padding is deteriorating and springs are pretty shot speedometer/odometer is so sticky that speedometer cable breaks easily (currently not working) heater core is always "active" as there is no valve in the line to the engine Drivetrain engine probably needs rebuild - ~90psi cylinder compression in 2007 rear engine/transmission mounts are very worn carburetor has stripped threads on accelerator pump exhaust manifold has some hairline cracks at the bolt holes oil leak during extended running takes a long time to warm-up (this might be due to the heat being on all the time as it's missing the valve to control the heater. Although, I couldn't guarantee that it has a thermostat, as I have not changed the coolant since I bought it) Positives: low reserve very little rust (AZ truck until driven to VA in January, 2008) very little wear on tires (bought 3 years ago -estimate about 2000 miles of use) new brake shoes, wheel bearings and carburetor rebuilt 3 years ago rebuilt brake hydraulics less than 2 years ago (includes new master cylinder, 2 new wheel cylinders -rebuilt the other 2, new brake hoses and some new solid brake line) new starter switch and horn relay about 1 year ago new battery about 8 months ago (it's not the standard size. but, plenty of amps. If you would prefer, I can swap out the batter from my jeep) tune-up a few months ago (new points, condenser, coil, spark plugs & wires, and adjusted the valves) Things to keep in mind: Speedometer/Odometer does not work (can't stress that enough). It stalls fairly easily even after the recent tune-up. 1962 F-100 did not have emergency flashers or reverse lights. I threw a cheap driving light on the back because the mechanic performing my inspection a few years ago strongly encouraged that I add a reverse light. He was very set-off because he had to consult his reference book to see that it was grandfathered.
