Vehicle Detail

Hello! I have for your consideration my Triumph TR6. Not only do I have my eyes on a green TR6 that a friend of mine wants to sell me, but I have a bet with my brother that I can finish a restoration on a TR250 by August 15th. Both of those are reasons that this has to go; to help finance the project and make room. It's not a perfect car (we'll get to that in a moment), but it's been a great daily driver for me. I bought it in December from another member of the Chicagoland Triumph club (ISOA for those in the know), and have been driving it everywhere from the first warm days in March up until now. It even completed a trip to and from Minneapolis (about 17 hours round trip) without incident just last month. Now onto the details. BAD NEWS FIRSTThe dashboard crash pads need to be redone. They're cracking in places, and I don't think concourse judges are a fan of black duct tape. The dash itself needs to be refinished. Some of the trim still needs to be installed (for example, the rear wheel arch panels--they go with the car and are in reasonable shape, but I have not put them together)There is a quiet but annoying squeaking noise that I can't seem to locate. It only happens at speed--could be a brake noise, or maybe it's something that will go away when I clean out the trunk. All of the gauges work, but the odometer does not, so I can't accurately tell you the mileage. The paint is... brown. Not my color. It's also got some scratches in the hood and is starting to crack in the trunk lid. Maaco will be happy to repaint the car in the color of your choosing for $1200 (I asked for a quote), or any professional could probably do a better job if you wanted a more thorough restoration done. There is pinhole rust in the trunk lid. Still solid, but would have to be repaired or replaced if you're restoring it. COULD GO EITHER WAYAll is original except for 2 things I'm aware of. The ignition switch has been moved from under the steering column to the center switch plinth as on older TR6's, and the car has had a tube shock conversion for the rear. The chassis has had some welding done on it by the trailing arms. Looks like someone replaced them and welded a plate over the t-shirt panel to stiffen it up. Not original, and not the prettiest welds, but I've had it on a lift to have a look and it's pretty solid. THE GOOD NEWSI've been over the car front to back with a magnet. It sticks everywhere, so it's all solid metal. The headlight buckets are solid, the floors have been replaced, the rockers have been replaced (all with correct parts, not pop-riveted sheet metal), and even the area by the tail lights and the trunk floor is all solid. The front fenders look like they've been replaced. The engine starts every time. No out-of-place noises. It shifts well and quietly through all gears, including reverse. No drivetrain noises or whining. The tires are close to new, and have great tread life. The tie rods are new, and the bushings in the steering rack have been replaced.Plenty of brake life, and no squeaking. All gauges function properly. No overheating, even in the 90 degree weather. The top is close to new, and is in great shape. All fluids have been replaced and topped off.Your option of the wheels that are on the car or a set of painted wire wheels. The painted wires will need to be trued (they wobble), but come with new reproduction red-line tires installed.Includes a tonneau cover. There are a couple small tears near the headrest, but it stretches well and does the job. SYNOPSIS All in all the body is in great shape apart from the paint. I was impressed, and the body is the reason I bought the car. The interior is so-so. Plan on redoing at least the dash area if you want it to look nice. The rest just has to be installed (some of the carpets and a couple trim pieces are in the trunk). The frame is also so-so. It's solid, but was not done with original parts. The top is good, engine and trans good, and the tires and brakes have plenty of life. Because the body is very good, and because everything on the car works, it's ideal for a current driver or for a starting point for a restoration. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to see the car or go for a ride, and as always... happy bidding!
