Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is a 1955 Willys CJ-5, all stock down to the 6 volt electrical system. It has manual steering, manual brakes, and the original Hurricane 4 cylinder engine. The only significant rust issue is the underseat tool box which rusted clean through. Amazingly though, the rest of the body is completely straight, rust-free, and free of bondo. There are some minor nicks and scuffs in the paint. Please give me a call if you are interested or want to come by and take it for a drive. Thanks. I am selling because I want a different Jeep, but can only have one toy at a time! This CJ-5 is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. -Engine and brakes recently rebuilt-New clutch and pressure plate recently installed-Speedo/odometer functional-New wiring harness from Walck's-Front seats recovered-Starts and runs every time-Relatively unmolested dash Please see the embedded slideshow below for many more pictures! I have added pictures of the undercarriage and inside the engine compartment! Give me a call at 410-830-9676 or send me a message. I will get back to you quickly. Question & AnswerAnswered OnQ: How does it handle on the highway? My farm is about 18 miles from my home. Any items or issues that may need to be delt with in the near future? Brakes, lights, wipers, horn all work OK? Any major fluid leaks? Thanks,Jun-30-11A: I probably wouldn't drive this on the highway, but that is not due to shimmy or shake in the driveline or otherwise. The bottom line is this is not a go-fast Jeep. It would perform admirably on a farm, but its top speed likely isn't much higher than 40-45MPH. It does not have an overdrive installed, however, an overdrive could be installed and you would increase your top cruising speed a fair amount. It does drive and handle WELL for a 55 year old vehicle. It does not accelerate or brake quickly, as the original 4 cylinder power-plant and drum brakes are not powerful. I wouldn't say there are any immediate issues that need to be dealt with. The Jeep does not have a top for inclement weather. If the Jeep does not sell, I will likely keep it and put a Bestop Supertop on it. The brakes, lights, horn, and wipers all function. I am sorting out one issue with the driver side passenger turn signal, but it is a minor electrical connection issue I am sure. There are no major fluid leaks but it is a Jeep. It is likely it will leave a drop of oil here or there some time. I hope this helps!Q: It looks like you already have two toys in the driveway...Jun-30-11A: Haha, yes I am a Jeep addict. The 4 door is the daily driver and weekend trail rig.Q: Which is the location of the jeep, South Carolina or Fountain Colorado. Ebay shows both, depending on that you put in. Thanks. DCJun-30-11A: Good question and my apologies. The Jeep is in Columbia, SC. It is currently titled in South Carolina as well. On Jul-16-11 at 15:34:09 PDT, seller added the following information: I've lowered the Buy-It-Now and the Reserve price. I would really like to see it go in this auction, even if at a loss to me. I bought it for $6950, but will let it go for less. This is a very solid '55, worth every dollar of the Buy-It-Now and then some. If you want an old Jeep that simply works, you need not look further. On Jul-17-11 at 06:18:51 PDT, seller added the following information: Q:What has been molested on the dash? Holes, aftermarket, etc.i am 6'03 and have no problem driving CJ7 or Wrangler can I drive your CJ5? I have never had a CJ5 or even sat in one. It appears in the picture that you have the seat bolted in the longest possible location as I see 3 adjustment mounting holes. Is the rear floor all original or have holes been drilled, example I noticed the rear seat that does not belong in the jeep. Is it just sitting there unbolted?Sorry for so many questions, but interested in a CJ that is original as possible like the way it was built new. Thanks- A:There was only one modification of the dash, where the previous owner tried to cut a hole for a gauge. He messed it up and covered it up with the gray plate you see to the right of the speedometer. I left the plate as is, but if I were to keep the Jeep, I am sure I would remove it and get that hole welded up. || I am 6' and have no problem driving this Jeep. I think that 6'3" should not be a problem. Here is a picture of me driving it showing the kind of legroom you have in the Jeep. [https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-MZkul8wI0NE/TiLd6y7QtsI/AAAAAAAACh0/_HQBD1gt_4g/s800/IMG_0673.JPG] This was the very first year of the CJ-5, so it was still sparse on creature comforts. It will not be as comfortable as a CJ-7 and will certainly not be as comfortable as a Wrangler. I also added this same photo to the slideshow on the main auction page. || I took the rear seat out of the Jeep, but it was included with it when I bought it. It is not original. It has never been bolted in. It looks like it is a late 70s CJ Levi edition seat. Thanks for the questions
