Vehicle Detail

This has to be one of the most unusual cars I have ever had in my collection. The car was given to me in 2004 by the second owner, and I believe she purchased it in the early eighties. She never used it as a daily driver, but did keep it operational and licensed for the entire time. I believe it was driven only a few thousand miles during her long ownership. At the time, the car was complete and solid, but looked quite tired. She did not want to sell it to someone who would simply drive it into the ground, so she gave it to me with the understanding that it would be restored and preserved. Over the last seven years, I have done quite a few repairs and upgrades to the Pacer, but have rarely driven it, either... Therefore, it is time for someone else to enjoy this strange little car! I believe this Pacer was originally sold in Indiana, but moved to Arizona within a few years. It is rust free, with the exception of a tiny pin hole just left of the rear license plate. The underside is clean and free from scale. Floors are perfect, along with the rockers, lower fenders, doors, etc. This Pacer is equipped with the 258 CID 6 cylinder engine, mated to an automatic, column-shifted transmission. No major leaks, but it does let out a little drip occasionally. Also equipped with front disc brakes. Here is a list of the repairs and improvements during my ownership: Complete paint job in 2008. All trim was removed, along with the interior, door handles, bumpers, and weather stripping. I sanded the entire car before delivering it to Maaco for a complete repaint. They actually do a fairly good job if the car is prepped properly! Both door jambs and the rear hatch area were painted as well, all in the original shade of white. The front seat was re-upholstered shortly after the paint job. We were able to track down an incredibly rare bolt of the original AMC southwestern insert pattern, which had been stored in a warehouse since the late seventies. It was expensive, but matches the rear seat perfectly! While the interior was out, I insulated the roof, repainted the headliner, and re-dyed the plastic panels. The dash and carpet are original and in good condition. No cracks in the dash pad- the carpet does have a tear in the passenger rear area, out of sight. All the windows were professionally tinted to protect the car from the fierce Arizona sun. The car has been kept in covered storage since the restoration, and waxed regularly. Passenger side ball joint was replaced. Alignment is good. Air conditioner was professionally serviced in 2008, and has a new clutch assembly, idler pulley, and Freeze 12 charge. I have $769 invested in the air conditioner alone! It blows icy cold. New Distributer New spark plugs, wires. New lift shocks for the hatchback. Press the button, and the door lifts up like a space ship hatch! Very cool... New rear shocks New exhaust manifold in 2011, along with new gaskets on the intake. New sway bar bushings. The subframe mounting pads were also recently serviced. This is a design flaw with these cars, and requires that an additional bolt be inserted through the mounting pad. New door seals. Glass is all in good condition, including the windshield. BF Goodrich Radial T/A's have 80% tread. The previous owner claimed that the engine was rebuilt shortly before her purchase, but I have no proof of this. It was supposedly done at 100,000 miles. Known Problems: The engine and transmission mounts need to be replaced, They are still available, but can be a bit pricey. The engine has a slight miss at idle. Might be ignition related. The speedometer/odometer stopped working about 200 miles ago. I am including a new speedometer cable, but the unit itself may need to be serviced. The front shocks should be replaced. Driver's door is a bit out of alignment. Closes fine, just needs more of a push than the passenger side. The hinges are still in good condition. The paint on the driver's door is slightly wrinkled in three spots. It's hard to notice, and did not show up in the pictures. The front bumper has a small dimple under the license plate. It is not visible with the plate installed. The rear window wiper is broken and removed. I will include the part, but it has a broken mounting bracket. The interior plastic trim on the B pillars will need to be replaced. I will include the crumbly originals for a pattern. The top of the driver's door panel is cracked as well. Driver's side tail light lens is cracked Extra Goodies included in the sale: Original Owner's manual Original Shop manual from AMC Door storage pockets Pacer emblems for front and rear (not installed) Extra set of full Pacer wheel covers Extra factory AMC AM/FM stereo 8-track player! I bought this on ebay, and it is supposed to be in working order. The original AM radio is still installed, and works. Original Sales Brochure, featuring the AMC line up for 1976. All receipts for work performed since 2004. To date, I have invested over $3500 in parts and repairs, not including my own labor. This is a really goofy car, and gets lots of attention at every show. Everybody seems to have a story about a Pacer, and it always makes people laugh! It takes a person of real confidence to drive a car like this, so make sure you're up to the task! This Pacer runs and drives, and is currently registered and insured in the state of Arizona. The transmission shifts well, and the brakes work without pulling or vibrations. I have a clear Arizona title in my name. It is being sold AS-IS. All inspections are welcome, but only before the auction ends. I have never driven this car on any long trips, so I make no guarantees about it's ability to drive cross-country. I will work with your shipper. and I live just four miles from I-10 in Tucson, Arizona. Please feel free to call me with any questions. My name is Alex, and I can be reached at 520-465-2539. This is a no reserve auction, so bid to win!! I will entertain cash offers, and reserve the right to end the auction early if the car sells. $500 deposit via paypal due within 48 hours. Balance due in 7 days. I can keep the car for a short time while shipping arrangements are made.
