Vehicle Detail
For auction without reserve is a very solid, straight and rust-free California 1973 Mustang Mach 1 project car. Options include air conditioning and power steering. The car is equipped with a good-running 351 c. i. Cleveland 2-barrel engine, C-6 and 9" open with 2.75 gears (according to the factory tag). Power front disc/rear drum brakes. The transmission shifts through the gears ok, the differential seems good, the front suspension needs work as does the exhaust system. The wheels are old-school mags (14" front/15" rear) with the junk rollers that were on them when I bought them years ago for the Mustang. The car is virtually unmolested and rust free. The body reasonably straight under the bad yellow paint. No part of the body or floorpan has been cut, drilled into or otherwise hacked. Even the electrical is remarkably unmolested. I drove the Mustang a few miles before I purchased it without issue. The engine seems solid, does not overheat and holds acceptable oil pressure. The radiator is the heavy-duty unit. Original points-style ignition and original 2-barrel carburetor (which needs an accelerator pump and probably a rebuild). The brakes stop the car, condition unknown except that I installed new fron brake pads some time back. This car does run and drive, but it is not roadworthy. It will have no problem getting onto a trailer or transporter and being moved about. The yellow paint is faded and peeling off over the (originally green) good sheetmetal. I have gone over and through this car thoroughly and have found 0 rust (or evidence of any previous rust/accident repair) except for a few minor rust-throughs in the overall solid trunk floor (easily cleaned up and repaired while saving the original floor). No rust or attachment issues around (or under) the window moldings. The Mustang does need some bodywork, but relatively minor stuff. The doors open and close ok, with decent hinges. The hood hinges are good, but missing one spring (the hood still remains open). All glass is good except for the windshield. Door windows roll up/down ok, need to be cleaned and lubed but with good regulators. I removed the under-dash a-c box to install a new cover (which I never did), but it is the trunk of the car; otherwise the a-c system is complete and intact. All gauges work except for the fuel gauge which just stopped registering. The center console is in decent overall condition, easily restored. Otherwise the Mustang needs a complete interior. The door locks were rebuilt (same key as the ignition); the trunk lock is removed, now in the trunk of the car. Some lights work, some do not, never got into it. I took a lot of photos, which tells most of what this car is. Visit them at http://s881.photobucket.com/albums/ac13/carsinmotion/1973%20Mustang%20Mach%201%20solid%20project%20car/. This is a project car, although a good, solid place to start.
