Vehicle Detail
I am selling my 1986 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Grande. I didn't know what the Grande was until I purchased this vehicle- The Grande designation was a one-year-only upgrade from the Regency Model, and had a different interior from the Regency, which omitted all woodgrain on dashboard and door panels. The package highlights are in the factory flyer in the photos. This car was sold new in Orange County, and has been in California its whole life, and has been garaged its whole life. It wears its original license plates. It has approximately 124,500 miles on it, mainly highway miles, as the car was leased to a corporation in Newport Beach originally as a salesman's vehicle. It has always easily passed smog testing in California, and maintenance has never been neglected on this car mechanically. In the two years that I have owned the car I have installed/replaced: Fuel PumpIgnition CoilA/C Compressor (blows ice cold, especially important here in the California desert)Water PumpTires (less than 5000 miles on this set)Paint jobNew padded vinyl roofNew Diehard battery (last week)New Struts The car overall is in very presentable shape, and I wouldn't hesitate to jump in it and drive it cross country. It's a comfortable and quiet vehicle. Engine: Starts easily in hot or cold weather. There are no lifter sounds or rattles. Runs very quietly. There are no exhaust leaks. The A/C compressor is quiet and functions as it should. The car does drip a little transmission fluid, but it is a negligible amount- I do not have to replace fluid between regular 3000 mile oil changes, but it should be noted that it does drip. The drips, when parked overnight, amount to three small dots approximately less than 1/4" in diameter. The transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, there is no 'banging' into our out of drive, reverse, or the lower gears. The car accelerates quickly as it should, has ample power for freeway, even climbing steep grades. I regularly drive this car to Los Angeles (approx 170 miles from Palm Springs) with no worries. The car brakes evenly with no pulling to either side. The car tracks well, with no swaying, shuddering, or vibrations. It's a wonderful car to drive. Body: I had this car painted approximately two years ago. The old paint had lost lustre, and needed to be repainted. There was no evidence of any prior accidents. The header is nice and clean. The hood opens and closes easily, and the struts were recently replaced. The gap around the sides in nice and even. The driver's door opens and closes from interior and exterior. The same goes for front passenger door, and rear passenger doors. The gaps around these doors are nice and even. The weatherstripping, while serviceable, could use replacement in the near future. The decklid opens and closes easily, and same goes for nice, even factory gaps. There is only one ding that I can find and it is on the rear driver's side quarter, at the top of the fender, directly above the rear wheel well. Brightwork on front and rear bumpers is excellent. The lower stainless steel trim and lower edge of car is all in excellent shape. The beltline trim is in excellent shape, save the rear driver's side one, which has a crimp in it. Interior: The headliner is in excellent condition. No sagging. The front seat drivers biscuit should be replaced. It is starting to wear excessively in the pigskin. The bolster is in good shape, but could use a re-dye as well. The passenger front seat is in good condition. The rear seat is in excellent condition. The front armrest has some wear, but I have an NOS replacement for the Grande model. The combination lock in the front console works. All interior lights, including map lights, dome, rear reading lamps, dash lights, and door hazard/courtesy lamps are all functioning. The external lamp monitors are all working. The rear view mirror that automatically dims is not working, or I can't figure out if it is. The electric antenna does not work. The cassette player does not function properly, but the am/fm BOSE six speaker stereo does work. The remote lock/alarm does work. The interior trunk release and interior fuel door release works. The audible voice warning system works. All of the electronic dashboard displays work. The cigarette lighters (three) are all working. The power windows all function. Both front power seats work. The toggle on the passenger side power seat is broken, but I have an NOS replacement for it. The pulse wipers work. The Twilight Sentinel and illuminated door entry do not seem to work. The A/C functions as well as the heater. The digital displays on the dashboard are all working, save for a quirk on the fuel gauge: When the tank has been filled, the fuel display disappears until approx 2 gallons of gas has been used, then the display returns.
