Vehicle Detail

It seems like everyone has either owned a PV544 at some time in the past or wishes they had. Here's your chance to own a 544 that drives like it should, and one that has been used on a regular basis.Since we bought this 544 three years ago, we have spent over $8,000 (not including the purchase price) on sorting everything out and making it reliable. From a complete rebuilt front suspension, to an IPD sway bar, to a new clutch and master cylinder, to a new windshield squirter and heater fan, everything on this car works.I have personally driven it thousands of miles, including taking my family to the Sun River Festival of Cars in it, a 400-mile round trip. What I like most about the car is the originality of the interior. The floormats are worn but original, and the seats appear to be original - although on close examination you can see a slight difference between the spacing of the dot patterns between the front and rear seats. There is a small, 3/4" tear in the rear seat that has been repaired. The paint is good from twenty feet, but has some issues. The left rear fender has bubbled when gas expanded and spilled onto it. The rear deck is crazing a little bit. Overall, this is a decent repaint that is showing its age. The chrome is complete and in good condition. Underneath, the car appears to be totally rust-free and very straight. New parts and work done in recent years includes the following: new clutch; new front suspension; freshly rebuilt and adjusted SU carburetors; fuel tank, heater core, and sending unit repair; u-joint, drive shaft bearing; choke cables; rewired amp gauge; ignition wires, manifold gasket, heat shield gaskets; valves and timing set; repaired brake fluid reservoir, flushed and adjusted brake system; new thermostat; valve cover gasket; oil cap seal; fuel pump flange gasket, new windshield gasket. The interior is largely original, including the factory Volvo radio by Bendix (it lights up but since we don't have a speaker or antenna, there's no telling if it makes sound). I have installed new shoulder harnesses with inertia reels to replace the old ones that flopped around the interior. I have also installed rear seatbelts, so that we could strap our infant's car seat in. The hood latch and trunk latch mechanisms work correctly. Both doors open smoothly and shut solidly. In fact, the 544 seals so well that it helps to roll the window down slightly before closing the door. Even the action on the glove box is nice. The clutch and transmission are smooth and solid. The car still has its original radiator blind! It's been a great car for us, and I'm sure it will be equally great for the next owner. I’ve done the best I can to describe and document the car here, but can’t guarantee that there isn’t something I have overlooked, or that some part that has been functioning perfectly for us won't suddenly decide to misbehave. That's the way it is with old cars, and if you are bidding on this car, I assume you are already aware of just what an unpredictable adventure these cars can be. Your own inspection is the best guarantee. If you would like to talk to the shop that has done the most recent work on the car, please call Chris at Harold's Auto Repair in Portland, OR at 503.232.8304 and mention this listing. Car has a clear Oregon title and current tags. Good luck and happy bidding – Keith Martin, Publisher, Sports Car Market magazine The Fine PrintIf you are the winning bidder, a $1000 deposit must be made within two days of the end of the sale and balance within seven days. The vehicle cannot be picked up until funds have cleared. I can assist with shipping, but that will have to be ordered and paid for by the winning bidder.
