Vehicle Detail
1952 FORD SUNLINER The Ford line of cars was refreshed for 1952. This was the first change from the highly recognizable '49 through '51 models sometimes referred to as "Thunder Road" Fords. The new '52 Fords included a curved one-piece windshield as well as the distinctive "jet intake" corner markers over the rear wheels. The model lines were shuffled with the base model now called "Mainline" with mid-level called "Customline". The top "CRESTLINE" included the "Country Squire" station wagon, the "Victoria" hardtop and the "SUNLINER" convertible. An instrument panel overhaul for '52 brought the "Flight-Style Control Panel with the beginnings of a shroud over the instrument cluster and the elimination of the perforated metal used in 1951. Ford also introduced the "Center Fill" gas tank filler tubes. By swinging the license plate down, the filler tube and cap were exposed and the car could be refueled from either side. Officially known by Ford as body type 76B CRESTLINE CONVERTIBLE COUPE, this little cruiser is identified by its common and much more fun sounding name "SUNLINER" by its large window sill trim. The CRESTLINE series was offered only with the 110 HP flathead V8 of previous years (no six-cylinder offered), however, this drop-top has been updated with a 350 Chevy with a 2 bbl. carb. Other mechanical mods are POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION and DUAL EXHAUST. Visual mods include a '55 Ford GRILLE (original grille comes with car but needs rechromed), "FRENCHED" headlights, shaved door handles and it has been "nosed & decked". She also has a rear mounted electric Antenna and new white top. Convenience mods include electric trunk release and power front windows. The '56 OLDS tail lights really add style to the rear! You can see that she is no "Trailer Queen" or show car but is fully usable as is. She is a great looking cruise night car or the new owner could improve her to any degree they wished. Only 22,534 '52 SUNLINERS were built. There are probably not too many left! Don't pass up this chance to own a real American Classic.
