Vehicle Detail
'76 TL 250 converted to a 350. It's got a 1978 XL350 engine which I completely overhauled about 20 hours ago (engine time). Stock NOS 2nd over piston, new rod. All lower end bearings and seals. The '78's have the improved tranny and it is in excellent shape. I changed the cam and flywheel to the 250 parts for extra snap off the bottom. This engine will last a long time. I always was intrigued with the idea of a TL 350,having ridden many hours on a 250. The 350 bolts right in. The tank had to be very slightly notched for the points cover. The stock 350 header mated up to the 250 muffler with an adapter. The stock 250 airbox and 350 carb lined up with a little mod to the stock boot. I am a profesional cycle mechanic and this bike is dialed in and done right-no hack job. The original crap side panels I replaced with alloy fabrications which snap into the stock grommets. The original crap shocks died long ago and it currently sports custom set-up Works units. The bike is plated for limited street use (top speed is about 50mph, max) and all papers are current. The frame and tank are original paint. The bike has nicks and scratches all over from normal use. The frame is not caved in on the bottom. The tank has been dented a bit,the front fender is cut to clear the pipe. Rims are original and very straight. Everything works as it should except the brakelight switch wire is broken. Tires are good. Spark arrester has some small rust-through near the end. I have the original bars,if I can find them they go with the bike. This is a fantastic bike for easy cruising or exploring extremely steep, rugged and remote places where you would never think of going on a typical trail bike. It will climb ridiculous canyons and gulches. It's less capable (obviously) than a modern trials bike BUT it is way more trail friendly because it has a seat and a big enough tank to go a long way. Being a 4-stroke it sips fuel. The XL350 has some of the biggest cooling fins ever put on a motorcycle and the engine will NEVER heat up and ping even on long laborious ascents where it just torques out and keeps pulling. It runs great with much more grunt than the 250. It starts within 4 kicks cold and usually one kick hot. I have gotten up hills easily on this bike which are very challenging on a CR500,it just takes a little longer. If you get stuck you just turn around and go down or restart and motor up. Or make a completely new trail. The bike is light and low with deep gears and very smooth tractable power. It will even hustle pretty well on a tight trail as the 350 has a strong midrange. I never changed the motor number on the paperwork but can provide a receipt/bill of sale for the engine. I will miss this bike but I'm getting old and hardly ride it anymore. I hope someone enjoys it alot! I require a non-refundable $250 Paypal deposit upon auction end and the balance in cash or negotiable instrument within 24hrs thereafter. Buyer is responsible for any shipping. I will safely hold the bike for up to 15 days while you make arrangements. I will make the bike available for pickup at any time if you just let me know a day in advance. I cannot crate or disassemble it. Please be honest and sincere, let's not waste eachother's time. All questions are welcome and you may view the bike if you contact me. Thanks and good luck. On Jun-28-11 at 20:00:42 PDT, seller added the following information: I pulled the bike out and ran it today. It's working well and starts easily. It looks a bit scruffier than the pics show IMO,but is quite presentable. I can send additional pics if required. On Jul-01-11 at 09:18:16 PDT, seller added the following information: I also forgot to mention the seat has been recovered and some thicker padding put in. The pan is original but the cover is not. It's more comfortable than stock.
