Vehicle Detail
1974 BMW 2002 Club Racer Car for Sale Please read completely if you are interested in this car. Vehicle does not run right now and is being sold "AS IS". It will run once the ignition system is sorted out, throttle linkage installed, and timing is adjusted. I just have not finished it and got it running. I do not have time right now to get this done for you to "test" either so it is going to be sold NON-RUNNING AS IS. If reserve is not met I will take it apart and take it with me to Germany to sell as parts as I have many $$$ invested and can get a least my reserve price for it parting it out. Here is your chance to get a good deal on a car that has had alot of work done to it, but needs a little more to get it going and having fun with it on the track or local autocross. I personally built this car from the ground up between 1998 and 2001, but never actually drove it too much. Never got it on the track, but did sort out the suspension and it is awesome! Blueprinted the engine, but it has never been run. Zero Miles on it!, Suspension and brakes probably has less than 2,000 miles on it Car has a clear Virginia title (not salvage). Mileage is unknown, however it is not really relevant as suspension and engine were completely overhauled between 1998-2000 to prepare the body for club racing and autocross. I am in the military and after 9/11 I have been too busy working and traveling and so the car has set in storage for the past 10 years as I have moved around the world. I am getting ready to head back to Germany for 3 years and it is time to admit the car needs to go. The car was spec built for BMWCCA racing in I believe what was considered E Modified at the time. Not sure how it would fall out now, but used the rules to max out the specs on the car while staying within the parameters of the class. I’ve been out of it for many years so I am not sure how it would fall these days. The car is probably not “streetable” and I will not vouch that the car would pass Virginia State Inspection (or any state). That is up to you to figure out. It has turn signals, lights, etc, but not heat/defrost system, nor bumpers. I am selling this as a project/race car. I am assuming if you are interested in this car, you know what you are looking at by the specs below. I have about $5000 invested in various parts etc which are all fairly new, although have been sitting on the car for the past 10 years. Another option would be to buy this car and swap the parts over to your car if you wanted something a little more streetable. Whoever wins the auction will get a good deal for sure! Suspension and Steering:Ireland Engineering Strut BraceIreland Engineering Rear Race SpringsDriver's side engine mount reinforcement plateIreland Egineering Front and Rear Sway Bars including complete Urethane Bushings all the way around.New Tie Rods on the front when it was re-built.Adjustable Camber Plates on front shocks with specially engineered Tii Struts with Adjustable Coil Overs.Sold Rear Subframe mountsRear Subframe was completly disassembled and rewelded with the Trailing arms reinforced and triangulated for extra strengthSpecial Ireland Engineering Shortened Bilstien HD ShocksBrakes:Front: 5 Series front "Big" brake set up with Vented BMW 2002 Turbo Rotor on Tii Struts. Calipers rebuilt, but probably will need to be inspected and rebuilt again since they have been sitting for a while. BMW 2002 Turbo Again, it has been sitting for many years so they will probably need to be replaced. However this is a simple replacement since they are a bolt on with Tii struts.Rear: BMW 320 drums.Engine:Completely Blueprinted engine. with Ireland Engineering parts/specs. Built 10 years ago, but never ran, not even turned over. Zero MIles! I estimated based on the design that it should pull around 150HP with a redline at about 6500 RPMs. All new parts. Nothing used went back into this motor. It is BRAND NEW and never run.Built for BMWCCA club racing in Modified Stock classes.Over .40 pistonsFuel Pump block off plateDecent Aftermarket Header. I have two. One fits a stock exhaust the other a larger 2 or 2.5 inch exhaut (I can’t remember).38/38 Weber Downdraft Carb (Max BMWCCA would allow at the time). Installed on car, but never used. Stock intake manifold opened up and port matched to Carb.Ireland Engineering 292 cam installed. Designed to pull about 6500 RPMs, but no guarantees from me as I have not had it running and I am basing my estimate off the specs of the parts I used.Ireland Engineering Shot Peened and Balanced RodsBMW Factory Over .40 Pistons. E12Heavy Duty Rocker Arms, Valves, and SpringsHeadwork was done by Pete at J&F years ago. I port matched it and polished the Intakes prior to Pete doing the work.Ireland Egineering Baffled Oil Pan. New Oil Pump etc. Urethane Motor Mounts and Ireland reinforcement plate welded in.Drive Train: Stock/Run of the mill 4 speed transmission Lightweight and balanced flywheel and heavy duty race clutch (never used!) 320is Limited Slip Diff in rear. All Urethane bushings in the rear suspension. Ignition:Still needs to be sorted out, but have Crane Electric Ignition ready to be put in it. I have a Tii Distributor (used).Crane ignition system will be included.Put in a brand new Ireland Engineering Heavy Duty/Lightweight Race starter last year What the car still needs. It will need to be sorted out and inspected since it has sat for about 10 years.Needs linkage fabricated for Throttle/Gas PedalNeeds roll cage installed.Has electric Fuel Pump and decent stock gas tank, but recommend a fuel cellNeeds electrical system sorted out for fuel pump, starter etc.Has 320 radiator installed, but it is old and would recommend a new one. Some light welding on the floor panels (rust)Will need new tiresWill need brakes inspected and probably rotors etc as it has been sitting for a while.Body/Interior:Has used Recaro 320is sport seats and 320is Steering Wheel. No back seat.Front firewall in engine compartment was removed to make working on and puling engine easier. AC/Heater was removed to lighten car. Engine has cooling system block off kit installed.Body is solid structurally and straight, paint job is poor, this is a bare bones race body, not a concours car! This is not a car for someone that is looking for a concours restoration project. It is a body that you don’t car if you swap some paint on.Additional Parts: I parted out lots of cars over the years. I’d like these to go with the car as well, but if you don’t want them, they will most likely go to the dump. Parts of interest for spares for this car Extra set of rims2 extra 4 speed transmission (used)2 extra Drive ShaftsExtra Rear Trunk lidExtra front windshieldsCouple of extra doors (not sure what side right now).Boxes and Boxes of Lights, interior parts, engine parts. years of parting 2002 out.Additional parts are yours if you want them. I am gonna take to the dump whatever the winner does not want to keep.
