Vehicle Detail

1961 Ford Thunderbird Convertible -Complete Restoration:  Burgundy in color with beautifully rebuilt 300hp 309cu engine.  Car has a 3-speed automatic transmission, Kelsey Hayes style spoke wheels, original am tube radio, day/night mirror, black interior, seat belts and tan soft-top.  Engine compartment is fully detailed with correct hoses, battery cables, washer fluid bag, correctly painted valve covers with decals, and correctly numbered fan belt.  It also has correct distributor, alternator, carburetor, water pump, horns, fuel pump, original style Ford keys, spare and jack.  The car rides on Coker Classic radial whitewall tires. The entire instrument panel is clean and everything works.  1961 was the year that Ford introduced the famous “swing away” steering wheel (see photos).  Car was manufactured in June of 1961. This Thunderbird was restored to correct Heritage Burgundy color and was given a Tan soft top.  As you can see from the photos this car has been meticulously restored to “show quality”.  The paint is PPG Burgundy Metallic and all the chrome is new.  The original Ford 390 Engine and Transmission have been rebuilt and detailed.  Factory options include: Automatic Transmission, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Seats, Swing Away Steering and AM Radio.  All parts used during restoration were either NOS or restored originals.   The 1961 Thunderbird saw new and much sleeker “Bullet Bird” styling, with a pointed nose and rocket-ship lines, terminated with twin jet exhaust-like round taillights with fins above. Note:  There are two small pin sized holes in the driver’s side rear of the soft-top.  Also, Kelsey Hayes wire wheels have a few areas of surface rust around the spokes.  All of the seems and gaps on the car perfect, there is one area of the lower drivers side door where the panel is not perfectally flush with the body, see photo.  The care is beautiful.  This car has been in my garage covered most of the time I have owned it… hence I am selling. I have the factory shop manual and various documents that trace the car’s history.  There is also a car cover included with this auction. Payment: $2500 (CERTIFIED BANK CHECK or WIRED FUNDS) due within 3 days of auction ending.  Final balance due within 7 days of auction ending.  Car must be picked up within 3 weeks of auction end unless arrangements are worked out with seller.  Please note, I am out of town the week of June 13th so the car will need to be picked up before or after that date.   Shipping:   If you need to transport the car, I have used Intercity Lines (www.intercitylines.com) several times and have been very happy.  You will probably want to have this car transported in an enclosed carrier as it has always been.  Intercity is based in MA so they should not have a long wait in scheduling.  For an estimate simply call Intercity at 413-436-9511 or Toll Free at 800-221-3936.   Other:   This vehicle is being sold as is, with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type.  The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with this vehicle at the buyer's request prior to the close of sale.   If you are unsure in any way please DO NOT bid on this car.  If you need to get a bank loan, need to talk over with your spouse, friend or whomever…. Please do this BEFORE you bid on the car.  This is an auction to sell the car.  On Jun-08-11 at 11:06:26 PDT, seller added the following information: Thank you for all of your interest in the Thunderbird. I’ve received a lot of email and want to answer the most commonly asked question: “What will you sell the car for?” Answer: This car is up for auction, there is no “buy it now” price. I have set the reserve price at $25,000. Also, I’ve shown the car many times over the last week. There are two days left in the auction and I am traveling from Thursday till Sunday. Therefore, the last chance to see the car would be tonight (Wednesday). The auction ends on Saturday morning. I just added a few more photos as per your requests. Thank you again for all of your interest in this automobile.
