Vehicle Detail
All about EDDIE My wife and I purchased Eddie from his second owner in 2006 with 24,000 original miles. Yes, 24,000 ORIGINAL miles. We found it hard to believe too, but the story checked out. Eddie was owned by a woman from Florida, who kept him here at her second home in Gunnison, Colorado, thus, the low miles. At the time, the worst thing about Eddie was that he was rarely driven, and had apparently been exposed to dirt roads, accounting for the rock chips on the front. All the glass is original. The clutch was replaced at about 22,000 miles by the previous owner. I never found out why it failed – I suspect that the Florida owner rode the clutch. Eddie has, and continues to be, a fantastic vehicle for us. I never have to be concerned about my wife getting stuck in the high Rocky Mountain winters with its push-button 4-wheel drive, studded tires, adjustable ride height and overall performance. We only consider selling Eddie because he still has less than 50,000 miles, and is a bit of a rare breed. While his miles are still insanely low, we thought that we’d toss him up on the market and see how many Subaru aficionados there are out there who would be interested in picking up a rare, low mileage, XT coupe with all-wheel drive and turbo charging. Since we have owned Eddie, we have driven him to Idaho on several occasions trouble-free. The original R-12 AC coolant still blows ice cold. In fact, the only time that having the AC function so well, is when it’s the middle of a Gunnison winter (-30 degrees) and you need to use the front defroster. Regardless of the outside temperature, the AC fires up when the front defroster is selected – this works great, when it’s not 30 or 40 below zero! All power windows and locks function as new. The trunk and fuel door releases also function as they should. The factory stereo sometimes decides to fade out, but works fine with our Sirius radio and an FM Transmitter to boost the signal. Me thinks it needs to be blown out with some air. The automatic retractable antenna works fine. The only thing that has developed in the last 500 miles is that occasionally, the ride height light on the dash will flash. I have checked all of the air lines (not easy) and have found no air leaks. I have found that when this happens while driving, if I turn the ignition off, and then on again, the light stops flashing and everything functions as normal. This leads me to believe that Eddie has a poor connection in one of the sensor leads, or more likely a bad ground for the computer which monitors the suspension system. The timing belt was changed at 35,000 miles, but I did not change the cam seals – mistake on my part, as they are now leaking ever so slightly. The cooling system was just flushed thoroughly, and refilled. The oil has also just been changed – all oil changes have occurred within 3k miles, with Mobile 1. All four front CV boots have recently been changed, and joints packed with RedLine grease. Rear CV boots were still fine, no cracks, and quite pliable. All gear boxes (including rear differential) are all filled with RedLine gear oil. Eddie’s interior is amazing for his age. Seating upholstery has no rips or tears throughout; carpeting is complete with no rips tears or wear holes. The original “XT COUPE” monogrammed floor mats (front and rear, all four) remain with the vehicle. The pop-up sun roof is removable, and stows in the trunk with built-in straps to keep it from flying around the trunk when rallying. We’ve never taken the panel out, bird-phobia I guess…that and we’ve never rallied the car either. The only real issues on the interior is the plastic sill that clips on the dash at the base of the windshield – it’s slightly warped (see photos)…and the little plastic button cover for the rear window defroster has disappeared. The latter could probably be found at a junk yard…just not in Gunnison, as this is the only one in town. Two exterior coachwork issues are that a deer ran into my wife (yes, I saw it from my rear-view mirror), and broke the front left headlight and slightly bent the headlight cover and headlight regulator (the mechanism that raises and lowers the headlight). The headlight cover, and regulator were easily straightened, and function properly. The headlight though, I have not been able to find a replacement for, so it currently has a standard 9004 bulb. The right side headlamp is an H4-type, with a replaceable bulb. I have a glass lens to replace the broken lens (on the left lamp) and will attempt to replace it before sale completion. The replaceable H4 bulbs are 100/55 watt units, which make for excellent night driving vision. The second coachwork issue is a dent in the passenger side of the vehicle where “somebody” (two guesses, and it’s not me) clipped my truck while parking in front of our house. I pushed the dent out the next day to prevent the paint from cracking along the dent lines (and so far, it has not). I did not spend a ton of time on it, as I did not want to make it worse – I don’t have any auto body tools. The dent is confined to the panel right behind the passenger door – not the door itself. Both original driving lights are on the vehicle, and work great (and have “SUBARU” covers for them). One of the driving lights took a rock hit, which put a circular crack in the lens, and cracked the lens cover. The glass is not currently leaking, and is in one piece. The cover can be solvent welded back together (probably ABS, or PVC plastic). For those who are particularly observant of the photos, you will notice that the factory alloy rims are currently shod with different tires on the front and rear. Long story, suffice it to say that we never use the 4-wheel drive in the summer, so don’t worry about the transfer case having issues from running different tires (even though they are the “same size”). All four winter tires are the same size/make/tread, and get rotated regularly to prevent loading of the transmission. Eddie has spent probably 95% of his time inside a garage. Rust? Uh, no. Zip. Nada. None. The only places where you will find any rust are the spots where there are chips or scratches. Eddie has: 1.8 litre turbo charged 4 cylinder boxer engine K&N air filter 5-speed manual transmission 4 wheel disc brakes Air conditioning Rear window defroster AM/FM Cassette (factory radio) Tilt and telescoping steering wheel Steering wheel lift – which raises the wheel out of the way for easier entrance/exit from the driver’s seat Speed alarm, which let’s you know when you are going beyond your desired set speed (ya, right…you know how fast you’re going!) Cruise control, with functions on the steering wheel Infinitely adjustable intermittent windshield wipers Fold down rear seat, which can be locked to keep the “valet” from folding it down Remote trunk release (which is what the valet would use anyway…) Remote fuel filler door release Summer/winter windshield wiper “rest” position switch Push button four wheel drive 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat (up/down, fore/aft, and backrest adjustments) oh ya, and driver’s side lumbar adjustment too…what’s that make it then, 8-way? Trip computer with digital clock, factory installed 2 sets of tires, four summer and four studded winter snow tires (one set of rims) 4 factory alloy wheels – 13”ers, which makes for inexpensive tires 3 individual keys (one for her, one for me, one to let her into the car when she locks herself out ;~) Complete tool kit and original spare Pop-up roof, which is also removable and stores in the trunk with built-in restraints, as seen in photos Power rear-view mirrors, left and right Power windows Power locks Factory fog/driving lights with covers Luggage rack on rear trunk lid Outside air temperature display “and now, the rest of the story…” Winning bidder is required to provide a $500 deposit within 24 hours of auction close. $500 deposit is NOT refundable, period. If you are serious about buying, items 1 & 2 shouldn’t be an issue, should it now? Check my feedback. While I have bought and sold small items, I deal from the same platform of integrity – remember what the wise guy said? – “faithful in least, faithful in much” – you can count on me to deliver. Bearing the previous statement in mind, please, don’t bid unless you intend to purchase. Please, do not think that “he’ll negotiate the price when we get there to pick it up.” You will end up going home empty handed, and I’ll still have your 500 clams (see point number 3). The winning bid, minus your $500 deposit, brings us to the next point… Bring cash. Daddy likes cash as much as you like a clear title. Sure, you can bring a check if you like – but YOU will have to find a place up here to cash it with YOUR name on it, not mine. Dig? Cool. Daddy likes cash. I will provide a clear, un-encumbered Colorado State title. The state of Colorado does not require a bill of sale to transfer title work. Do the research – I’ll endeavor to provide what you will need to get title work done in your state. I will not, however, DO the title work, or provide you with license plates to drive it home. Ask your questions now – I want to sell Eddie (albeit reluctantly), and I will take additional pictures as requested. Your lack of research/inspection will not change points 4, 5 or 6. Bid, and don’t pay? Well, I’ll have ebay all over you like stink on, well, a pile of something really unpleasant. Maybe they won’t do anything about it, but you will at least be the proud recipient of some rather unsavory feedback from me. Have negative feedback? No feedback? “No problem!” DON’T BID, thank you very much…the solution for that problem is to contact me, I’ll give you my address, and you can come to my house and pay me cash straight up. See? Everything has a solution! :~) I’ll store Eddie, off the street, as long as you need me to…as long as that is no longer than 2 weeks. Within 2 weeks of auction close I need to have Benjamins, and Eddie on his way to his new home. I would be happy to deliver Eddie to you, within 250 miles of Gunnison, Colorado, for an additional $150 to cover my fuel and time. I am flexible, if you need delivery assistance, let me know. Eddie comes with a full tank of fuel. Vehicle sold “as-is” with no warranties expressed or implied. Purchaser responsible for all sales tax and applicable title and registration fees. Mileage may be greater than that in the photograph, as the vehicle is still licensed and in my “quiver” of vehicles. I thank you, and Eddie thanks you for viewing this auction. Neither my wife, nor myself, are selling Eddie because we are “afraid something really expensive is going to break”, quite the contrary. Eddie has been a fantastic vehicle, and we would not hesitate to drive him to Alaska tomorrow. “Everything is for sale, at the right price”, we’re just checking to see if the price is right. On May-29-11 at 09:56:48 PDT, seller added the following information: It was requested that i post another image of the damaged area, so I have included 2 more, believing that they will provide enough perspective to make an informed decision. Also, it was requested to post an image with the suspension set to the normal position, not high. In addition, I added two shots showing the two headlights - the one that currently has the H4 lens, and the other which is stock (the stock lens is the one that the deer ran into). Feel free to make your requests known - I'll do my best to provide. Any additional images will come at the expense of having to remove images, as I've reached my maximum number of images allowed. Additionally, I don't know how ebay's vehicle report gets its numbers, but clearly there are not 4 previous owners to the vehicle...hmmmm... :~)On May-31-11 at 19:22:25 PDT, seller added the following information: Please Note: ebay will not allow me to add any new photos now that there are bids on Eddie. If you would like a picture of anything, I will post a link to my personal website for you to view it. Sorry for the inconvenience...thanks ebay...:~) ENGINE: http://www.toddkramis.com/default.asp?p=230
