Vehicle Detail
1993 Toyota Previa LE originally from Georgia. It's only seen three Ohio winters. I bought this van in February of 2007 after starting a handyman business and I am selling it now to upgrade to a newer van. The main reasons why I bought the Previa minivan rather than a larger work van are: reliability, affordability, good fuel economy -I average around 18mpg in Winter and 22mpg in Summer, no timing belt to replace -has timing chain, positive owner ratings (4.9 stars out of 5 on KBB.com), and it will carry a 4’ x 8’ sheet of paneling and a 12’ folding ladder completely inside the van (with the hatch closed). I have also taken this van on trips with four passengers and everyone agreed that it was very comfortable to ride in. This van is still being used so the mileage will increase slightly before the end of the auction. However, this van is also ready to take you to California and back if you’d like. Maintenance: Because I use this van almost every day, I have kept up to date on maintenance. When I bought the van, there were a lot of things wrong with it, including oil leaks. I have taken care of most issues, so you can just show up and drive it home. Some of the more recent items replaced: front tires, catalytic converter, both oxygen sensors, front and rear brake rotors and pads. Here is a list of items fixed or replaced:7-14-06---149,397 Secondary Accessory Drive Shaft (SADS) rebuilt (previous owner). 2-10-07---158,389 Windshield replaced (by used car dealer). 2-10-07---158,389 I bought van and replaced four taillight lamps. 2-16-07---158,877 Replaced all wiper inserts with Toyota parts. 3-2-07---159,333 Replaced rotor, ignition wires and distributor cap with Toyota parts. 3-5-07---159,471 Replaced both valve cover gaskets and all spark plug tube gaskets with Toyota parts. 3-6-07---159,471 Replaced spark plugs (NGK platinum plugs-change every 60,000 miles). 3-8-07---159,471 Replaced right license plate light bulb and PCV hose. 7-17-07---161,047 Replaced front struts (with KYB GR-2), front brake lines bled, front alignment done. 7-24-07---161,347 Replaced coolant. 3-22-08---170,390 Replaced broken spring in driver’s door latch/lock. Replaced identical original (working) spring on passenger latch/lock. 4-21-08---170,570 Replaced blown fuse for front windshield washer motor. 3-5-09---174,774 Replaced distributor o-ring. 11-9-09---178,517 Replaced transmission fluid, filter and pan gasket. 11-18-09---178,589 Replaced coolant and two lower-rear radiator hoses with Toyota parts. 6-30-10---182,361 Replaced rear brake rotors and pads. 11-29-10---185,746 Replaced front brake rotors and pads. 1-15-11---186,342 Replaced: “main O2 sensor” (Denso), “sub O2 sensor” (Denso), exhaust flex pipe w/catalytic converter (Walker), and gaskets (Walker). 3-1-11---187,157 Replaced front tires with Firestone Affinity LH30. Oil and oil filter was changed every 6,000 miles (Toyota recommends changing every 7,500 miles.) Ratings: (Good, Fair, Poor) Exterior body: Fair condition. There are many small scratches, dings and dents. There is a big dent on the rear, below the tailgate, from a previous owner’s accident. There is a big dent on the left-rear corner from a Winter accident when I slid into a guardrail. Despite all this, there is almost no rust on the entire van. There are three small spots of surface rust forming under the rear tailgate glass (see photo). There is a tiny spot of surface rust by the big dent at the left-rear (see photo). There is a small area of surface rust on the edge of the left-front fender (see photo). Almost all the stone chips on the hood have some surface rust (see photo). There is no rust in the normal spots, behind the rear wheels where the top of the rear bumper is attached to the body (see photos). The wiper arms all have surface rust.Glass: Good condition. No chips or cracks. Rear glass is tinted. Rear tailgate window has a rainbow scratch from the wiper arm rubbing against the glass (from previous owner). I adjusted the arm so that it no longer touches the glass. Except for the windshield and two small pieces of glass in front of front doors, each piece of glass is etched with the VIN. Mechanical: Good condition. No fluid leaks. Engine always starts on first try. Engine runs very well. Van passes Ohio “E-Check” smog test. No unusual noises from drivetrain. Muffler makes a brief whine at certain engine revs but I found out from the online Previa user groups that this is common but harmless. Front a/c still blows cold but rear a/c is not working. No dashboard warning lights are on. All exterior lights work. All tires hold air (including the spare). Front tires are almost new (10/32”-11/32” tread left) but rear tires are near the end of their useful life (4/32”-5/32” tread left). Wiper blades are good. Transmission operates normally. Suspension is good. Steering is tight. Belts are good. Battery is good. Brakes are new. Rear hatch struts hold door open. Power windows work fine. Interior: Fair condition. Front seats are not torn and have no noticeable stains. Rear seats are in storage but, as I recall, are not torn and do not have any noticeable stains. Carpet has some stains but is not torn or moldy. Headliner has some dirty spots but is not torn. Front seat floor mats do not match the rear mats. Vinyl covering the bottom half of interior has some small tears in rear cargo area near hatch opening. Interior lights all work. Dash board/gauges: Good to Fair condition. All gauges work. No warning lights are on. All accessories work. On/off/volume knob missing from stereo. Stereo volume sometimes is very low when first turned on, but increases to normal volume after a minute. Cassette player works but will not eject tape. Dashboard lights illuminating the ventilation mode (defrost/defrost and floor/face/face and floor/floor) do not work. Dashboard lights illuminating the “A/C” and “Rear window defrost” buttons do not work. Issues: These issues all came with the van when I bought it and I found that none were serious enough to have repaired. 1) After sitting overnight, the van will misfire for about five seconds during the first startup of the day. After that, the engine runs perfectly. Every startup during the rest of the day is normal. 2) The bottom edge of the windshield was not sealed properly and you can sometimes see water vapor on the inside of the glass near those two areas. 3) The back edge of the sliding door doesn’t close flush with the body but water does not leak inside. 4) The passenger side outside rearview mirror slowly loosens and gets wobbly (another common Previa trait) so, once a year, I tighten the screw at the bottom of the mirror housing and the mirror no longer wobbles. 5) The interior light above the sliding door has to be operated manually (will not automatically turn on/off when door is opened/closed). 6) Once a month, when I check fluid levels, the coolant level is usually low in the overflow reservoir and I have to add coolant. 7) Driver side door lock hinge needs to be greased. When outside temperature goes down below around 40F, the lock is sometimes reluctant to pivot all the way open when the door is opened. When this happens, you have to lift up slightly on the door handle to get the latch to work and close the door. Above about 40F, the door operates normally. IMPORTANT! 1) VEHICLE SOLD AS IS. 2) VEHICLE IS FOR SALE LOCALLY AND MAY BE SOLD BEFORE AUCTION ENDS. 3) WINNING BIDDER MUST PAY $250 DEPOSIT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF AUCTION CLOSE. 4) BALANCE OF PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN SEVEN DAYS OF AUCTION CLOSE OR ITEM WILL BE RELISTED.
