Up for sale is my 1998 Volkswagen Beetle. When I bought this car it wasn't shifting and the engine was knocking .....So I went on ebay and I bought an engine and transmission out of a wrecked beetle and had them installed. The body has 200k miles but the engine and transmission have 134k. The engine runs good .I put new plus, wires, coil on the engine but the transmsiion is stuck in limp mode"second gear" and will not shift. Keep in mind the transmssion has already been replaced, and it was shifting in the car it came out of......So it may be a speed sensor, or maybe the trasmission computer...I have over 4k invested in this car and I dont have the budget to spend any more.Its a good running project car, it has a couple of things it needs.i.e The ac needs charging, it needs a headliner, carpet needs a good shampooing and the passenger side window need a regulator in it...It will let down but It wont go back up...If you can find you a good tranmsiion shop, you can probably have it back on the road in no time......The local transmision shop here doesnt even want to work on a volkswagen.....The car has to be trailered...........Again it doesnt shift gears, but will can drive up on a trailer......
