Vehicle Detail

I am selling a 1948 Plymouth Special Deluxe Woody Wagon project car. I am selling for a friend who has fallen on hard times. This vehicle is a "Rolling Chassis" that will need total restoration and will need to be trailered to its' new home. Shipping will be the buyers' expense but I will help however I can. I repeat that it will need to be rolled onto the trailer. The vehicle is over 25 years of age and therefore will have only a CT Bill of sale as there are no titles for cars over 25 years in our state. This will not be an issue as all DMV's know what states do not have titles. I DO NOT have any old CT registrations, as it was never registered in CT. I do have the last registration from NY from 1992, which was when it was last on the road, but there was no NY Title issued then either. Obviously there is no warranty on this vehicle. Again, I repeat, that due to age of vehicle I have no title from these 2 non title states so please do not ask for anything else, because I simply do not have it, I can give you a notarized Bill of Sale. Foreign shipping needs to be set up within 2 weeks of auction close and again must comply to the paperwork I can provide. (I only repeat this because to those who understand this is not an issue, for those who do not, it will be, and I would rather you not bid please. When was the last time you saw a woody wagon for sale at an affordable price to restore, especially in the Northeast? If you look at the Woodys for sale on EBAY from a couple weeks ago, you will find a 1948 Plymouth that they were asking $89,000.00 to Buy it now, so you will see that even if they can only get half that amount, this car is a great bargain. I will do my best to describe it but please ask questions because my mind reading skills are very poor. I will be asking for a $500.00 deposit at end of auction and payment in full via either certified check or wire transfer within 1 week at end of auction before vehicle will be released. If you have either zero or negative feedback, you will need to contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bids as this is serious business and I have no time for scammers, tire kickers or players. I would like to have the car leave here within a week or so as I am facing being laid up for many weeks after that (operation), and it would be difficult to move it until I can be up and around again, but we can talk. Storage for a for a short period of time might be possible but at a small fee. My reserve is lower then my Buy it Now price. The car is totally original and in the condition I found it 6 years ago in the wood shop of a NYC shipyard. The wood is mostly shot but in good enough shape to get all your patterns from. Some panels can probably be saved, especially the roof. One of the doors has already been rebuilt but needs assembly, and there is a newly built tailgate bottom as well. Interior is missing the rear 2 seats, (They are always missing because most were taken out for additional room and discarded but are out there if you search for them). Metal Floor boards are shot but very easy fix. Glass is original and I believe mostly there except a few flat pieces, but again flat glass is a simple thing to replace. One window crank assembly is missing, but is the same as a 4 door sedan and there are zillions of them out there (46-48). Both inner and outer Fenders are very solid and rust free, with some on the top of driver's side but easy to patch. Stainless trim for front is missing as are a couple of the handles but again these are easy to find on Ebay or several vintage Mopar parts houses, which I would be happy to put you in touch with. I do have a few trim pieces I will dig up and include such as the headlight frames, and running light frames, hood badge and probably a mostly complete front grille trim, (just have to find them). I will probably be able to also dig up some hub caps as well. Bumpers, bumper (splash) pans, rims, brake drums, etc., are all original and fine to use but tires will need to be replaced, although they do hold air fine as they are for "rolling" purposes. Actually the rear bumper appears re chromed and front in great shape but needing re chrome. Dash is complete and in nice shape with only the temp gauge missing. The drivetrain is totally original and rolls freely. Motor ran smoothly when I found it 6 years ago but has not been started since, although it spins very easily and I would figure will run fine. I was told the miles were original by the owner listed on the last registration but can not prove it. In fact he said he drove it to the ship yard in 1992. All wiring etc., under dash is in such good shape I believe him. Engine compartment shows an untampered motor with everything complete. Radiator holds anti freeze without a drip and engine also appears drip free! All mechanical parts are also easy to find and quite reasonable, price wise. Car will easily roll onto a trailer. The grey duct tape you see on the roof was from when we trailered it from NY to CT, the vinyl began to peel back, so we stopped it. The car sat in the wood shop for nearly 20 years and before that in a garage for about the same amount of time. Problem was the first garage had a bad roof which is what happened to the wood. If you know anything about these cars you realize what they are worth when restored. The key to "getting in the game", is to first find one and then purchase it at a reasonable enough figure to allow you to restore it. I have set a very fair reserve on the car because I want it to go to someone who will restore it and enjoy it as we do ours and not to a dealer who will just tack on more $$$ and make money. Already had one willing to give buy it now price, which tells me there is still money to be made. Our Plymouth (picture # 23), rides better than any Ford and has far more detail to the wood. We love it so much our friend wanted one too, but as I mentioned no longer can afford it. I did not use parts from this car for ours other then a radiator cap, so you will have a pretty complete start, better than we had when we did ours. At car shows we are always told how people "wish they could afford one". Here is your chance so don't let it get away! I have the vehicle for sale locally so reserve the right to end the auction early should I receive a legitimate offer. Good luck bidding and bid to win. Taking pictures is difficult with the car in the garage and a week of rain forecast in CT, but I will do my best if you need something specific. Thanks for viewing my ad. Please be aware that although an excellent project and pretty much a guarantee that the investment will increase considerably, the project is not for the "Feint of Heart". Those who know Woody's and their considerable value understand this. Those who do not, like the fellow who drove 8 hours from Michigan and got cold feet, due to lack of vision and understanding of Woodys, do not. Therefore, I repeat that it is a project with most wood shot but there for patterns. I now have many additional photos I can send if requested. Please feel free to ask any and all questions.
