Vehicle Detail

Until a few years ago, the Pacer stuck in the Automotive Freak Show, scoring high in "Worst Car Ever" lists and books with titles like "Lemon!" or "Automotive Atrocities — the Cars We Love to Hate", often accompanied by the AMC Gremlin, so much that one gets almost disappointed when it misses from such a compilation. However, times are a-changing. Today, cars from the 1970s are dated technology, and many are gone for good. Lately, the Pacer is seen differently: as a design icon of its time and as what it could have been. It's not only Wayne and Garth, its MTV where Pacers co-star, in videos of the Barenaked Ladies, flash in the pan Jimmy Ray, or Eminem. Pacers look cool these days. A Pacer at a car show always draws a crowd, and not many cars have this talent to attract. Also, soon to be released in a new animated movie, Cars 2. The Pacer plays a role as a character named “Acer” with a bad attitude. This Car will soon be more of a collectible as there are not many available. So owning one of these soon to be famous Pacers will definitely be popular. The AMC Pacer is a two door compact automobile produced in the United States by the American Motors Corporation between 1975 and 1980. Its initial design started in 1971. The car’s unusual rounded shape with massive glass area greatly contrasted with the three-box architecture with “square, boxy designs” incorporating upright grilles and slab-sides of the era. The Pacer was described as “the seventies answer to George Jetson’s mode of transportation” at a time when “Detroit was still rolling out boat sized gas guzzlers.” The large amount of glass led Car and Driver to dub it “The Flying Fishbowl”. The Pacer “jellybean” body style is a readily recognized icon of the 1970s. A more upscale edition of the Pacer, the D/L was available for the entire run of the car. This package was more luxurious including, a “Navajo-designs” seating fabric and a wood grain instrument panel as well as a few interior features that were optional without it. The exterior received additional chrome accents, different wheel covers, and identification badging. This particular 1978 AMC Pacer D/L is a 49, 000 original mile car that had only one owner here in Connecticut. Finished in its original color of Forrest metallic green with two tone tan interior, the car is a wonderful driving example of an original Pacer. These cars are incredibly hard to find with so many being left for dead. Most of the trim is in good condition with some slight damage on the lower sides. The wood grain on both sides is in good condition with no fading showing. The front and rear bumpers are equally nice with no damage showing to either. All the windows are free of cracks or chips and are factory tinted. Inside the seats and door panels look great. The carpet is original for the car and is in good condition. There is no cracking to the dash or steering wheel. All gauges are in good condition and in working order with the lights (is missing one rear tail lens), blinkers, horn and radio. The 258 cubic inch in line six cylinder under the hood runs great and is connected to an automatic transmission that performs great. It could use a tune up as it does not idle as if there is a vacuum leak (which I am told is common, I use don't have the time to search for it). There is no tapping noises or oil leaks showing. This is an A/C car that could use a charging but all else works fine. On the road the car drives like a 49000 miles car should. Very straight and true with all the power that these Pacers are known for! The one piece wheels are all in very good condition and there is a spare tire in the hidden well compartment. The original papers, AMC issued tool kit and manual emergency roadside flasher that I never saw before!) including the owners manual are all there. This is a rare Station Wagon model which had very low production numbers this year making it even more desirable. Most were of the hatch back design. With low original miles, one owner (yes a elderly lady was the one owner) the car is being sold in “as is” condition at a very reasonable price for a collectible car that will increase in value with time. The VIN number is A8C687C304072 and it has been stored for many years until now inside a garage, making this survivor a museum piece for sure. You can contact me anytime Eastern Standard time (203) 858-4752 to discuss owning a piece of AMERICAN history and being the "only kid on the block" to own a PACER! Buyer is responsible for transportation and I reserve the right to sell it locally. Good luck and thank you for bidding.
