Hi there, The time has come to part with my beloved 1970 Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 with 135K miles. For those of you who know what a special type of car this is already, please feel free to skip down to the condition description below. If you don't know, the 6.3 version of the Mercedes 300SEL was the first super sedan, with a massive 6.3L V-8 engine, tremendously quiet and smooth on the road, and produced in a short run from 1967-1972 with 6,526 built. This car accelerates 0-60 in 6.3sec, takes in bumps and turns with aplomb via a sophisticated air suspension (in great shape still), and coddles you in a luxurious interior. Why should I sell it? It is a little expensive to maintain, and after our fourth child, I have to work to find time to drive it as we don't all fit together anymore. Below is a general description of the condition. I'd like it to go to a good home. * exterior is nearly perfect, no rust, paint is reasonable and shines up nicely, couple small trim misalignments, rubber is in good shape * undercarriage is also very nice, no rust, no holes, no dents * interior leather is worn a bit, currently covered with nice sheepskins, dash has a very small crack, all gauges work, wood is good but not perfect, headliner in great shape * engine is in great shape, Pertronix upgrade (kept old points if you want them), about 135K miles, sounds great * transmission takes a bit to warm up, won't shift into 4th, have flushed and cleaned, very consistent behavior, but have only shifted to 4th twice to my knowledge, flip side is that at 70mph the engine sounds awesome at 3000rpm in 3rd :) * air suspension in very good shape, doesn't leak down for many days * power vacuum locks work, power windows all work, wipers, etc all work, turn signal stalk sometimes won't catch * original radio works and sounds great, aftermarket system also installed by previous owner (remote only, no faceplace) but easily removed * A/C needs charging, worked when bought but haven't used for a few years * heaters and defrost work well, all interior lights work * have many records from over the years That's all I can think of for the moment, I'll update the ad if I remember anything else.
