Vehicle Detail
This 79 CR250 will make somebody a nice vintage rider. I picked it up last year, and did several things to it to make it rideable for the vintage class. I also picked up a CR480 and I prefer the big bore, so I'm clearing out my garage of a few bikes that I dont intend on using. This is NOT a show bike to put in the den (we nick named it Frankenstien because of the mix of colors here and there like the sun rim on front, blue old style Works shocks, and red fadded engine and frame). The tank was a donor tank with some comparateivly minor dents, and was shot in PPG single stage urethane for a decent 10 foot job. Definately not a crushed tank with a pound of bondo and KMart Enamel, but its a rider tank done quickly in decent material that will not make you cry when you lay it over and put a crumple in it. New items include: Seat foam, seat cover, nice VMX plastic set, chain, sprockets, fork seals, grips, front tire. Rear tire is about 70 percent. Bike has no leaks. Oil serviced with Klotz synthetic. Shocks and forks are not pitted. Controls function smooth. Factory silencer repacked. Pipe is nice. Engine runs great and shifts cleanly with no slippage or tranny problems. Previous owner claimed to have "just replaced the piston and rings". I can't confirm that, but I put a tank of gas thru it at our local vintage friendly practice track last fall, and it sounded and felt great. An item item that will need to be address in the future is the swingarm bushings. They felt a bit sloppy when I removed the old original shocks, but I didnt notice any bad tendencies handling when I rode it last fall. Overall, I'd be comfortable to take this to the track and fuel it up and go. Again, this is definately not a pristine show bike, but it's a good one if you want a rider.
