Vehicle Detail
This is a great bike, perfectly set up for safe, comfortable, long-distance touring. There's nothing at all wrong with the bike that I know of (and I just returned from a 3-day ride in the twisties of North Carolina). The bike has been dealer maintained on all major service intervals, self-maintained on the others, and is in excellent condition. As being sold, it is equipped as follows: "Premium audio" setup, with AM, FM1, FM2, Weather, AUX (which I have set to XM Radio from the GPS), and CD (which is linked to the iPod integrator, allowing the iPod to act as if it were a CD player) Factory CB radioFactory fog lights (perfect for making the bike conspicuous to oncoming drivers) (see photo) PIAA 004XT (I think) driving lights, relay-connected to the high beams so that when the high beams are turned on, the fog lights go off (see photo). I've done late-night rides through heavily deer-infested country and the driving lights really light up the countryside, giving at least some peace of mind! Alternatively, if the fog light switch is turned off, then one can switch between high-beam and low-beam and neither the fogs nor the driving lights are on. Kennedy Dual-Set integrator, allowing integration of GPS audio and radar detector alert with the built-in audio functions.iPod integrator, allowing your iPod to be placed in the lid of the truck, and causing the iPod to act like a CD source for audio system.Retractable, spring-loaded Mick-O-Pegs, which make long runs on the freeway completely comfortable, and swing up to be totally out of the way when doing the twisties. I have taken corners fast enough to scrape the footpegs, but never hit the highway pegs.Trunk "spoiler" with brake light. In addition, I've added a "Back-Off" flasher so that the spoiler brake light flashes three times before holding steady (perfect for making yourself conspicuous to cell-phone blabbing inattentive drivers approaching from the rear).Luggage rack on the trunk lid. I'll also throw in a luggage rack pack with built-in rain cover. I got it a few months ago, but never went on a trip where I needed that much capacity. But it's nice to have if needed.Supplemental high-intensity LED turn signals. Generally, the Wing is lit up like a Christmas tree, but I though the rear turn signals were a little weak. See the photo--these LEDs are really bright. I hate to sound like a broken record, but again this is perfect for making yourself conspicuous.Utopia driver backrest Heated grips (factory model, but installed after the sale by the dealer).Plus, a bunch of extras: Factory service manual, Baker air-wings, an installed "Electrical Connections" power distribution panel, a plug for Gerbing heated clothing, a light-weight cover, the trunk-lid organizer, and an inflatable seat pad and sheepskin cover. There's an "Iron Butt" medallion on the back of the bike; if you're an Iron Butt member, I'll leave that on. Otherwise it comes off. As you can tell, I'm really into both safety and comfort, and there's not much I can think of to improve the bike on either count. PLUS -- the winner bidder (but only the winning bidder) has an option to buy one or both of the following: A Garmin GPSMAP 478 GPS with GXM-30 antenna. The bike is pre-wired for both power to and audio from the GPS, so that (with the right XM radio subscriptions) this allows one to listen to XM radio while riding along, with GPS route-prompts, and with (believe it or not) weather radar displayed on the screen! The GPS prompts allow you to navigate heads-up (for safety), while XM radio makes the miles fly by. And the weather radar has saved my rear end more than once, and makes it easy to know when it's best to stop and let those storms pass, or even stop for the night, rather than push on through dangerous weather. The GPS includes the mount and all of the RAM thingies necessary to install it on the bike (see the photo). I'll set it up for you if it's not obvious. Option price for the successful bidder: $500.A Passport 8500 radar detector. Again, the bike to prewired for both power and radar alert. And like the GPS, this includes the mount and all of the RAM balls and arms necessary to install it, as well as a Legal Speeding more-or-less waterproof cover. Of course, I'll put it back on the bike for you if you'd like. Option price for the successful bidder: $100.You can see the GPS/Passport setup in the picture. The pictured SPOT satellite tracker and drink holder are not included, but if the successful bidder buys both the GPS and the Passport, I'll throw in the drink holder with all of the RAM paraphernalia. (I need to keep the SPOT tracker.) You can see a video of some photos of me and my riding buddy on the Tail of the Dragon here: http://www.skiprd.com/DragonFall09.wmv. As you can see, while the bike is perfect for long-distance touring, it's pretty darn good for an "adult" pace through the twisties. (In case my wife is reading this, I'm not actually speeding in any of those photographs.) The only reason I'm selling this bike is that I'm getting on in years, and some health issues prevent me from hard-core, long-distance riding, so I really need to switch to something smaller and lighter. If it weren't for that, I'd keep the bike until one or both of us expired. I'll deliver the bike for free within 100 miles of Atlanta. Other than that, you're on your own either to get here to pick it up or to arrange for shipping at your expense/risk. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions. I've tried to provide the information necessary for you to make an informed decision, but I'm sure I've left something off. As you can see, I've got a 100% positive rating, so I'm pretty easy to get along with, both before and after the sale. Thanks for looking, and good luck in the bidding. -----Edit----- I received a question and neglected to make the response available for all. Here it is: QUESTION: Good morning, bike looks clean....are there any paint defects, nicks, scuffs etc, ANSWER: Nothing that I see. It's never been dumped, never gotten whacked by a big rock, and I keep it pretty clean. If there's anything on there, it's too small for me to see.
