Vehicle Detail
1960 Buick Electra 225 Custom Convertible This is a remarkable highly optioned car and one worth thoroughly reading the description for. The car was purchased new at Wiese Buick of Indianapolis, Indiana by a school teacher named Fern Hall. She owned the car until shortly before her death in 1986. She had become aware of an ad placed by the second owner who was searching for a car such as this. She responded and it ended in his purchasing the car from her. He and a friend flew in and drove the car home to Baltimore, Maryland. Sadly, both Mrs. Hall, who was in her 80’s at the time and her husband passed away shortly afterward. From that time on, the car was affectionately known as Fern in honor of Mrs. Hall. The second owner had the car until 2002. From there, it went in to a large collection in the Midwest and was there until I purchased it in 2009. Notes of interest It is thought that this is the only ’60 Electra 225 Custom Convertible known to have this interior color combination. It is very stunning to see in person. 85,000 actual miles. Options & Equipment - 401 C.I. V-8 -3 Speed Automatic Transmission -Factory Air Conditioning 401 C.I. V-8 - Factory Original Bucket Seats with original leather, (Power Drivers Side) - Center Console - Power Windows - Power Vent Windows - Power Antenna - Wonderbar Radio (Rear Speaker) - Autotronic Eye - Speedguard Speed Alert - Clock - E-Z- Eye Glass - Dual Exterior Rear View Mirrors - Power Steering - Power Brakes Correct - Wide White Wall Tires From Coker Condition Excellent Original, mainly unrestored car with a repaint, detailing and repairs common to this era GM car. This is a wonderful driving car. It holds the road as it should. It is obvious that the car has been chersihed by we who have owned it. Very tight, solid car. Mechanical Engine The motor is excellent. It does not burn or leak oil. It runs and functions just as it should, nice and smooth. No issues at all that I am aware of. Transmission Excellent, shifts smooth and clean, just as it should. Suspension Excellent, the second owner, had most of the updating and repairs performed on the car. He was painstaking with it as to originality. The entire suspension (front and rear) was rebuilt in the time that he owned it. This includes the entire front end suspension as well front and rear coil springs. He replaced all of these with correct parts and many were N.O.S. Exhaust Excellent, he also had the exhaust replaced using correct parts including the very hard to find original muffler. Brakes Excellent, I had the brake booster and master cylinder restored last year by Ed Strain in Pinellas Park, Florida. Tires Excellent, the correct wide whites from Coker. Air Conditioning The air conditioning system is complete and not blowing cold air. I have not attempted to have it charged. Paint The paint is very nice. It has been painted, was done very well. It shines beautifully and presents well. Very nice. Body Excellent, with no dents, nicks or major dings. The underside is very nice, though there were repairs made to the lower rocker panels and two small places on above the mounts on the passenger and driver sides. The repairs were made with new metal and look very nice. It is obvious that the issues were those that are common to these cars because of moisture and years of existence. They are isolated and one’s you might expect from an original well cared for car. I think comparatively, these would be considered quite minor, but wanted to disclose the past repairs. Floor & Trunk Pans Excellent, the floor and trunk pans are original and with no rust issues. The pans are not undercoated. As mentioned above, there were two small repairs done on the very front corners of the front floors above the mounts. These repairs were very minor, with new metal and done very well. Frame Excellent, the frame is rust free, never had it. It is obvious that it has never had any repairs and is solid. Bright Work The chrome is in very nice condition. The stainless is also very nice including the ribbed panels along the rockers. Very nice Interior Excellent, the original and very rare Maroon and Rose leather seats are in beautiful condition with only minor aging to the back driver seat center top passenger seat. In my opinion not enough to warrant repair. The carpet was replaced many years ago and is very nice. The original steering wheel, dash, door panels, ash wells and rear side panels are all in superb condition as you might expect. It still has the original trunk mat and side panels, these are also very nice. Convertible Top Excellent, I had the top replaced 2 years ago. It fits and looks very nice. At that time, I also had the lines and pump all serviced. They work and the top goes up and down just as it should. Glass Excellent Summary I am an individual seller. This is an unusually well optioned and very nice car. It drives great. I have no doubt much like it did when new. It runs great with lots of power. It has been a wonderful car to own. The car may well make the trip to wherever it is you might want to drive it. If you are serious about purchasing this car and would like to inspect it in person, I will be glad to accommodate you. I will be glad to pick you up at Beaumont Port Arthur Air Port, show you the car and return you for the flight out.
