Vehicle Detail
2001 VW Eurovan GLS, 7 passanger van Up for auction is a one owner (original owner) Eurovan with 115750 miles. I bought this van new in October 2001 and it has served my family well since then. With 6 cars in the stable, including 2 other VW's and a new minivan, it's time for this unique vehicle to go to a new home where it can get back to being used regularly. This van is driven very seldomly now and probably has accumulated just 1500miles or so in the past year. Eurovans are very uncommon vehicles these days as even in their peak sales years of 2001-2003, VW America was only selling a few thousand per year. If you are looking at Eurovans you probably already know the 2001-2003 models are the only ones worth considering as they have the wonderful 24v-VR6 motor. This motor is always eager, loves to rev and hauls this van down the road at speeds that will quickly get you a ticket, yet returns a respectable 20mpg moving a very big van around. Gas mileage is pretty consistent whether driving in mixed suburban driving or out on the highway. Unlike the older Eurovans, Vanagons or buses this 24v-VR6 van never feels underpowered and will happily cruise at 80+mph all day without breaking a sweat. This van also handles and drives like no other van out there. It is German designed and built and the autobahn is in it's bones.....no other vehicle this large is this fun to drive on twisty roads. This GLS model is configured as a 7 passenger van with 2 removable captains chairs in the middle and a 3 person bench at the rear. With the captains chairs removed you are left with an enormous flat area between the front seats and the rear bench. I have used this space for hauling items a mini-van has no business being able to fit. Like taking home a new washing machine and bringing the old one to the dump.......it's shocking just how big this "minivan" is. Another one of my family's favorite uses for this big space was gearing up and getting out of ski gear in the parking lot. We would typically leave out the captain's chair nearest the sliding door which still let's you carry 6 people, plus you get that big open space. We would pull into the ski parking lot with our regular clothes on, park and put on some music, then help the kids into their outwear, put their ski boots on, then do the same for ourselves. We would hop out of the van ready to hit the slopes with no need to get the little kids and all that loose ski gear up to the lodge......talk about convenience! With a bit of care this van should be ready to take you and your family on another 100,000mi. of adventures! The Good: - Original owner, original sales receipt and dealer service papers available with sale if you want them - Never been in an accident. No sheet metal work whatsoever - Regular oil changes with Synthetic oil since new (or since the dealer provided free oil changes for 2 years ended after purchase) - Transmission fluid and filter regularly serviced every 40,000mi. as recommended. Transmission operates flawlessly.....shifts smoothly and crisply without any slip or delay. - Tie rods, waterpump, alternator replaced around 75,000mi. - New a/c compressor last summer, A/C runs cold like new - front brakes and rotors replaced about 2500mi. ago - no drips or leaks whatsoever - Front alignment is dead on with very even tire wear indicating all front end components are tight. Zero play in the steering. - receiver hitch installed and wired. Hitch was only used for holding a receiver mounted bicycle rack, van has never towed (actually, towed a small u-haul trailer once for a couple hundred miles) I am a VW bus nut and have had and still have numerous buses, Vanagons and this Eurovan over the years. I want the fellow VW bus nut that buys this van to understand every bit of it the way that I would want to if I were buying it. So, here is a list of the problems or any less than perfect details that I know about with regards to this van. There will be no surprises if you win this van: - mechanic that changed A/C compressor last summer said fuel rail should be changed. When the van idles for a while, you can pickup a gasoline smell that seems to come from the left side of the engine compartment. There is no visible fuel wetness or dripping or anything like that but apparently some orings on the injectors or fuel rail could stand to be changed. Injectors had previously been tested and cleaned a few years ago with new orings installed then so it might just be time for new orings. - The check engine light will illuminate for a number of days, then go off for a while, then come back on. Mechanic says scanner reading when it's on says "fuel mixture lean". He believes it is related to the fuel rail seals mentioned above. The van always starts without hesitation and runs smooth and powerfully, but again this is something I would have looked at if I were keeping the van - rear brake pads and rotors need to be changed. The rear rotors are warped and rusted and you can feel a pulse from the warped rotors when stopping. - Paint has 11 years or scratches, parking lot dings, rock chips etc. As expected for the age - minor blistered paint spots/surface rust mostly on the lower body just behind the front wheels where rocks have chipped some paint over the years. I have lightly sanded, primed and resprayed these areas whenever I see them over the years so there are some touch up painted spots visible around the van. - Interior is tan and shows stains pretty easily. Two boys have literally grown up from infants riding around in this van so it has it's share of stains from spilled fast-food stops, dropped ice cream cones etc. - Tires are just getting to the wear indicators and will need to be changed within a few thousand miles - left fog light lens is cracked This auction has a low reserve with my thinking that if I were buying this van (or keeping it.....), I would probably be addressing at least the brakes and fuel rail issues mentioned above and would budget a couple thousand $$ to take care of the work knowing the dealer is never cheap. I also have the OEM 5 spoke wheels for this van. I am planning to ebay them separately but will automatically include them for anyone who chooses "Buy It Now". I would also be willing to include the OEM wheels with an auction bid for an additional +$300 over the winning bid amount if anyone is interested in having the original wheels.......if you win the auction just let me know if you want the wheels and I can add this amount to the invoice.
