Vehicle Detail

Notice: here's a cautionary tale for any eBayers viewing this listing: I "sold" this car on eBay a few weeks ago - twice! The first buyer, who bid in the last few minutes of the auction, backed out of the sale because he was buying it for his son, who announced (when told of the gift) that he had already bought a different car.... I also "sold" it in a second chance auction to a buyer who went MIA, and who I later found out had fake-purchased 6 cars in the prior two weeks! We still want to sell the car, but are leery of another bad experience and wasted two weeks. So here's the deal: I have included a 'buy-it-now' price of $1500 in this listing, and that is less than 5 bidders had bid on the last auction; those bidders are being informed of the car's new availability. If you should decide to 'buy-it-now', I will require an immediate Paypal deposit. The auction is still a 'no reserve' listing, starting at only $400, so you certainly have at least a chance to pick up a real bargain here.... Now here's the original auction listing, modified slightly with some new (positive!) information: I'm helping a friend sell her car, and we've decided to list it on eBay to avoid the hassle and expense of fixing it up and then selling it privately via a classified ad. While this is an excellent opportunity for the right buyer, the car needs some work, which will entail an investment to get it back to its former glory (details below) - that being said, this is an opportunity to grab a car which is great on gas and has lots of potential, without laying out a great deal of cash. First the good news: the interior is clean (nonsmoker owners for its entire life), and the engine and transmission (automatic) are strong. The car has been serviced regularly, with the next ordinary recommended service several thousand miles away. The various accessories (radio, CD player, A/C, heater, sunroof, power windows, etc.) all work fine. The car is inspected (Pennsylvania) through April. The car starts up, runs, and drives just fine. Now for the caveats: The car has rust spots at the wheel wells, on one rocker panel, and at the front of the hood, as well as appearing rusty underneath (not sure how bad). There is a small dent on the front passenger side door, and some damage to the front bumper. The windshield has a crack working itself across the bottom horizontally (probably goes halfway at present). The hood latch is pretty sticky, but does lock securely. The car will need front brake work to pass inspection next time, as well as a set of tires - they have some tread left but are pretty old, and one is flat and in the trunk unrepaired (the compact spare is on the car). The power door locks work (after a fashion), but the key remote doesn't (battery?). The check engine light is on, and her mechanic says it needs a new O2 sensor, as well as rear trailing arm bushings (whatever they are). A few notes on the pictures: not only was the car not detailed before the pics, it wasn't even washed! Except for the rust spots and the usual chips here and there, the paint is actually in pretty good shape. The windshield crack mentioned above isn't very evident in the pictures, but trust me, it's there... The worst rust appears to be at the front of the hood, which is also difficult to see in the pics - sorry! The car can be seen by appointment only; it's located close to Valley Forge Park. We want to sell the vehicle quickly, and it is priced accordingly. The opening bid is set at a very small fraction of the blue book value, and there is no reserve. A quick note about me: I am not a mechanic. I am not a car salesman. My eBay rating comes from buying and selling rocks (yes, rocks), not buying and selling cars.... The only thing you should infer from the rating is that I'm honest, I've been around on eBay a long time, and that I am very careful to ensure that what I say on eBay is based on fact, not hype.... BUYING INFORMATION: This is a private party sale; the vehicle currently has a clean PA title, and the buyer will bear all expenses to transfer the title and register the new vehicle. Also, although we believe the car to be represented fairly above, and are prepared to show that (again, by appointment only), we provide no warranty whatsoever. If you have a low feedback rating, and wish to bid on this vehicle, please contact us via eBay's message system immediately after placing any bid - we reserve the right to cancel any bids where the the buyer cannot be quickly verified as seriously interested in buying the vehicle.... The winning bidder will be required to pay a non-refundable $200 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of the auction close (immediately if you are using 'buy-it-now'). The balance of the full purchase price must be made before delivery via Paypal, cash, or certified check (verifiable at a local bank); we will assist the purchaser in handling any paperwork needed. All applicable fees, taxes, and expenses will be the sole responsibility of the buyer. Remember: once you buy the car, getting it to your location (and out of my driveway) will be your responsibilty and your expense.... BOTTOM LINE: Now if you are willing and able to fix up the problem areas, here's an opportunity to pick up a very desirable used car very inexpensively. Serious prospective buyers should contact us through eBay's message system with your phone # and the best time to call - we will respond quickly to answer any questions and set up an appointment to view the car.
