Vehicle Detail
Due to the purchase of another vehicle and the lack of storage, up for auction is my 1968 AMC AMX in rare Hialeah Yellow. I purchased this car in the fall of 2006 from a gentleman who restored the car in 1998 and drove it for a year or so and then parked it until I bought it. This particular car is not what I would consider a Barrett-Jackson trailer queen, but my intent when I purchased the vehicle was to have a very nice reliable car that shows very well. That being said, I have received several gold awards at AMO regionals in my area. The most recent gold award this car received was in Columbus, OH where I drove the AMX on a trouble free 200 mile roundtrip. My brother and I have spent countless hours replacing and rebuilding everything necessary on this car to make it a nice, driveable, showable AMX. I have made every effort possible to describe this car as accurately as I can and will answer any questions that you may have. Door Tag Information BODY#: R021531 MODEL: 6839-7 TRIM: 831A PAINT: 58A E091933 ENGINE 390 bored 30 over, balanced, new valves, rebuilt Carter carb, rebuilt distributor with petronix, date coded wires, runs on 90 octane pump gas, approximately 1000 miles on rebuild, also rebuilt water pump, alternator, starter, new heater core, new belts and hoses, new voltage regulator, 3 core radiator cleaned & hot tanked, new fuel pump, stainless steel fuel lines, and rebuilt power steering pump. TRANSMISSION Borg Warner T10 4 speed, new front, rear, & side cover seals, flywheel resurfaced, and new center force clutch and pressure plate. Also I have an additional shifter that will be included with the vehicle if the reserve is met. REAR END 3:54 Posi Traction, cover was pulled and the rear end was inspected, new seal and refilled with proper fluid. BODY Paint shows extremely well for its age with only a couple of very small nicks that have been touched up. There are also a couple of very small bubbles on the rear valence panel on the right hand side that wouldn't show in the photos, however they haven't gotten any larger since I owned the vehicle. I would consider these minor imperfections. I was told that this car did have left and right rear quarter patch panels put on when it was restored. Stripes are painted on. The stainless steel window trim is in very good shape but could use polishing. New door handles, new hood trim, rechromed eyebrow trim for headlight doors, new door seals, bumpers were rechromed when restored and still show nice, grill repainted to proper color and texture. I was told that the rear tail lights were NOS items when the car was restored and they still look very presentable as well as the rear center reflector. BRAKES & EXHAUST Rebuilt vacuum booster and master cylinder, new rotors, calipers, hoses on the front, drum brake rear with about 50% shoes remaining, all stainless steel brake lines, and silicone brake fluid is being used. I used a late 70s AMC set-up for the disc brakes on the front. Exhaust was on the vehicle when I purchased it and is still in excellent shape. I believe it to be a FlowMaster style exhaust system, but I'm not positive about that. INTERIOR Interior shows well. All panels including headliner are in very nice condition. Seats are nice but on the drivers seat side panel there is one spot that will have to be replaced as it has a tiny area that is worn. My understanding is that the material is available and it should be an easy repair. Door panels are in good condition with the polyeurethane door grab handles. As you can see by the photos this vehicle has the very rare rally pack gauges. All guages work including tach, fuel gauge, temp gauge, clock. The dash has a couple of cracks which is a typical issue for these cars. If the reserve is met on the vehicle, I do have a replacement dash shell that will be included. As you can see by the photos, the steering wheel is in excellent shape with NO CRACKS. There are two minor issues that will need to be taken care of. 1) The driver side window regulator is starting to get some wear and will have to be replaced. 2) The cable for the defroster/heater has come undone at the controls and will need to be fixed.
